I have changed BOINC versions a couple of times and have had no problems. After downloading the new BOINC, exit the active BOINC. Don't leave it running and try to run the install. After the new one is installed, bring up BOINC again. Why? I do this on all my machines without a hitch. The installer shuts down the running BOINC manager and service quite nicely before uninstalling and installs the new version cleanly. Maybe older BOINC installers didn't handle this condition right, but all the latest ones I've tried do. The fix so the installer remembers your previous install dir and options is the icing on the cake! |

There was code introduced in the latest versions, that play less nice and force the hand...... not so sure about that if checkpoints have not been made for a few hours, but that's the owners responsibility.... just a friendly note to pay attention to that and prevent frust.
