I stopped downloading WU's and when the system was clean I went to the WorldCommunityGrid home page and downloaded from the maiin page. Installed the WorldCommunityGridAgent. Checked prior member, gave ID and Pswd, etc, exploded the compressed file.
When I now click on the Boinc icon in the systray, help, about . . . . it says I'm still using 5.4.11 ???? Does this mean that the main page is still sending out 5.4.11 vice 5.8.x or what went wrong ?? What do I do now? |

PT, some questions always take me a while to digest.... Did u run the new installer or by accident run the old one?
----------------------------------------Here's where to get the new and newest official and save directly from the developers, but stick to 5.8.11 for now: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php To be honest, dont know if WCG have changed the link to the 5.8.11 version ( ) Edit: Now i know.... when i hit the download page, a window pops up saying 5.4.11 ( ) It (5.8.11) is not yet declared the formal recommended version!

P.... Edit: Now i know.... when i hit the download page, a window pops up saying 5.4.11 ( ) It (5.8.11) is not yet declared the formal recommended version!I downloaded (your URL) recommended 5.8.11, exploded file, selected single user install, everything OK. Boinc then ran the benchmark and about half way gave an error page "No work available to process". clicking on messages seems benchmark completed OK: Benchmark results: System Nr 1 || Number of CPUs: 2 || 1435 floating point MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU || 2637 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU networked install System Nr 2 ||Running CPU benchmarks ||Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site ||Access to reference site succeeded - project servers may be temporarily down. Benchmark results: || Number of CPUs: 1 || 2031 floating point MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU || 3432 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU The error message apparently came from the suspended 5.4.11 version leftover config stuff. I checked if now 5.8.11-- yes. Unsuspended the project. When went to running normal operation 5.8.11. Downloaded about 60 small files mostly HPF2 serialized, a rosetta, couple of zannn_xxx....files that took about 10 min's and now seems to be/may running 5.8.11 OK but still downloading (large rosetta file) as of this message. I'll get back later......got's to go for a bit. edit added Sys #2 that had same error msg and seems OK. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Feb 23, 2007 3:46:08 PM] |

Checked prior member, gave ID and Pswd, etc, exploded the compressed file. What you describe above is the install process for the UD WCG agent (which you say you installed), esp the part that said "checked prior member" because the BOINC installer doesn't do this. Then you go on to talk about BOINC for the rest of the post. Which did you actually download and install from the grid site? Do you perchance now have UD running alongside BOINC, unintentionally? I think both in WCG agent install and BOINC modern, there's a box to tick 'Existing Member'.... things change all the time

Which did you actually download and install from the grid site? Do you perchance now have UD running alongside BOINC, unintentionally? I believe that's what happened much to my shergrin (sp ?). I unknowingly, unintentionally touched the darn UD agent. If it's still on my system how do I find UD and get UD out? Boinc is (happyly) doing fine now. |

2 things to do:
----------------------------------------1. Remove the UD agent shortcut from the Start Up folder 2. Check if there is a WCG logo icon in the Systray, if so right click & exit, than go to 3. If not, than all is fine and the past may be forgotten. ![]() 3. Go to the Control Panel Sfotware app and uninstall.

chagrin it is.
----------------------------------------It is not actually necessary to DEINSTALL if you don't want to...just exit the UD ICON completely. On the other hand, your computer may be set up to initialize UD during bootup. You would have to exit it each time unless you take it out of there. We had a situation a couple of months ago during the Colorado blizzards when the BOINC server ran out of data. Some of us simply exited BOINC completely and brought up the UD program to run some workunits in the meantime. When the BOINC servers returned, we exited UD and restarted BOINC. You can run either in one partition, but not both at the same time (unless you have a multicore computer and choose to run one of each type). I have changed BOINC versions a couple of times and have had no problems. After downloading the new BOINC, exit the active BOINC. Don't leave it running and try to run the install. After the new one is installed, bring up BOINC again.

chagrin it is. .... .... You can run either in one partition, but not both at the same time (unless you have a multicore computer and choose to run one of each type)."restof" .... I removed UD from the systray then found WCG Agent last on the list of install/remove programs. Since UD was 1.9 Mb (not to large now-a-days) I decided to keep UD as a backup for Boinc -- remembering the Colorado snow storm. Going to search around for info on running, multi-instance programs, on multi-core chips. When the price drops on the AMD Quad boards/packs I'm going to buy one so need to brush up. Thank y'all for the help and good comments. Very much appreciated. chagrin is gone ![]() PT |
