Lots of strange errors reported by BOINC client...

Hi there,

I recently upgraded my BOINC client to 5.8.11 (on Intel Mac), and I've started getting a lot of errors highlighted in red in my messages that I've never had before on previous version of the client. Could someone tell me if these are anything to worry about? I know that some of the errors are probably due to faah workunits exeeding their allowed disk quota, as that has happened at least once today.

Main points of worry seem to be things along the lines of:

"Error on file upload: socket read incomplete: asked for 574, got 0"
and
"Process 15173 not found"

Here's the whole lot (sorry!):

Hi Fraz,
I do not have any idea. Why not try aborting the work units that you had when you upgraded BOINC and see if this happens with new downloads? Also, you might want to set the CPU percentage to 100% if it is less in order to avoid any possible bugs in the throttle code that is brand new in BOI(NC 5.8.

Yes, I'm using the cpu throttle - it's set to about 50%. It was the main reason I upgraded to that version of BOINC, as my MacBook tends to get very very hot with one of its two cores running all out all the time.

Still try the 100% on 1 core (set in member device profile), to see if it goes away. That would equal 50% of 2 cores.

On multiprocessors, at most use: 1 processors

MacPro's do get very hot, but they seem to be made for it.

Re: Lots of strange errors reported by BOINC client...

I'm having the same problem.

I'm running a Powerbook G4 laptop. I upgraded the Boinc Client to the latest one, and now all my taks end in errors "[error] Process 8804 not found"

I aborted all World Community Grid tasks from prior the upgrade, and the problem still occurs on tasks gotten since the upgrade.

My computer only has a single processor and is set to 95% CPU usage.

Re: Lots of strange errors reported by BOINC client...

As reported, it seems there is a bug running latest BOINC on these machines, not on 100% CPU. Ad Interim, set to 100% or go back to 5.4.11.

Re: Lots of strange errors reported by BOINC client...

Hello

why don't you use this ??
http://www.antec.com/us/productDetails.php?ProdID=75004

I've got an akasa* version of this on an asus notebook 24/24 core 2 duo and no problem

Two ultra quiet fans blow cool air directly onto the notebook base. Power is taken from an USB port and an illuminated blue LED USB cable is supplied. The unit has 2 USB ports so an ancillary device can be connected via the notebook cooler.

Keeping your notebook cool cuts down any chance of operational errors caused by overheating and extends notebook life, battery efficiency is also improved.
