Hi guys-
I did not select "Show Graphics" when these errors occured...I was in the advanced view, and was on the messages tab. I don't have a different partition on this computer, but BOINC is installed in the Program Files directory. I have no idea how installing in a different directory would affect things but I will surely try it. It still baffles me that the computer successfully did about 10 work units before all of this trouble started happening... I'll try reinstalling to a different directory and give you an update after I get more work units to try. Thanks again for your help. |

The Program Files Directory structure as does the OS has special protection in Vista. I'm sure there are ways to
----------------------------------------convince the security build into this new OS, that all is fine when all the sending / receiving and particular the writing takes place to an area that should normally be relatively static. There are some posts how to install / run UD & BOINC with elevated permission, but the move out of the PF dirs does not require and system modifications and for all of my opinion, I see nothing in UD or BOINC that requires elevated security client side. Communications are always initiated by the client - inherent safety - to fixed servers with secure transmission. Oh, and make sure if u have a router at home to change it's default admin password...... it's the latest hackers craze..... 50% seem not to do that). That would allow traffic diversion by manipulating the DNS numbers. http://www.helpero.com/news/Networking/Wirele...ack-home-routers_269.html

Hi guys-
sorry it took me so long to write back. After uninstalling BOINC, and reinstalling in c:\BOINC, everything started working perfectly, and has been doing so for over a week now. I guess that was the problem. Thanks again. |
