confused What are these two files?

These two files just downloaded to my computer:
Wed Feb 14 18:50:27 2007|World Community Grid|Started download of file wcg_fcg1_ssearch_5.12_i686-apple-darwin
and
Wed Feb 14 18:50:31 2007|World Community Grid|Started download of file fcg1_image2_linux_5.12.tga
I have two questions. What are these two files and why the heck did a LINUX file download to my APPLE MacBook Pro?

Re: What are these two files?

Well, have a look at Sending the 32 bit Linux Applications to additional platforms on BOINC What's BOINC reporting in Messages when you first start it up? They may be a bit generous in terms of what they are considering compatible biggrin

Re: What are these two files?

The first is the program used in Genome Comparison. You may have noticed a post in the beta forum saying that the recent beta was successful and an improved version is going on general release.

The second is an image file. I suspect it's the background image used in the graphics window. Why it has Linux in the filename I do not know. Possibly rendering differences mean a different file is used on Windows. Possibly the name means nothing. Possibly it's just to differentiate it from the UD image. I'm guessing, can you tell? :+)

Hello sedgecom,
Could you report your computer's Computer ID (listed near the start of Messages) to help knreed investigate this server error?

Re: What are these two files?

Sorry guys it is option D) When Kevin wrote the script to prepare the application version for Genome Comparison he copied from the linux section and put it into the mac section and didn't change the name of the file.

The wcg_fcg1_ssearch_5.12_i686-apple-darwin file is the application executable for Macs running on Intel chips for the Genome Comparison project.

The fcg1_image2_linux_5.12.tga file is background image for the graphics for Genome Comparison. The file name itself isn't important just its contents (and this file will be used correctly)

I have updated the script so that the next version of Genome Comparison that is released will not have an inaccurate name for the background image.

Re: What are these two files?

Cool, thanks for answering. And I can understand an oops, my husband has them every now and then when he is programing. blushing So long as the file works fine, the name doesn't matter.
Do you still need my computer id?
