I don't suppose there is a client in the works for Windows Vista, or if one of the current clients work?

Re: Client for Windows Vista?

A number of people have reported running BOINC on Vista for a month without trouble. I do not know if they are all running in Single-User mode or not. Nothing is guaranteed, but I have not seen any problem reports.

I've been running Boinc 5.4.X and 5.8.X and recently 5.8.8 on one machine {{{ 1.8 Centrino 750 mg RAM}} under Vista Ultimate for 4 months; without a single hiccup .....it doesn't seem to like the UD Agent at all though!!!!

smile Re: Client for Windows Vista?

I ran UD longer than 5 years now but I had upgrade to Vista 64 and found problems in the consol as far as ram report 4GIGs read a big 0
and elements where in single alfa, I don't know if my data was off in UD so I change to Boinc and it run just fine with the 64 version (X64) but it uses the 32 bit (X86) side of vista.

There is a post that states that some changes have to be made to run UD on Vista. Since I do not know if the suggested changes are safe or not, I agree with you - - switch to BOINC for safety.

Re: Client for Windows Vista?

I find that the agent fails after a reboot on Vista. Using XP it either continued where it left off, or started again. On my Vista it says "Backing Off" and needs a complete reinstall to fix.

Re: Client for Windows Vista?

Hello Michael Gallias,
Other people have reported a similar problem. One solution that seems to work is by installing in a different partition rather than in the default Program Files.

Hello Lawrence. More fun with partitioning, hmm. I'd rather delete Vista and run OpenBSD, that way I'd have good reason to play with some flavor of fdisk and possibly nerf my box. ;-)
Vista does not like the UD client and will not run it, BOINC runs fine, save that it gets too happy with system resources and won't allow any other apps to share CPU time. If I was running a Grid dedicated Vista box, that'd be fine, but I can't justify the expense, sorry.
Note, I am using the 32bit version, not the 64bit. This is on a dell dimension E520 dual core wi/ 2gb RAM. "I shoulda bought an Apple!".
Suggest building both a 32bit and 64bit version of BOINC and the Saver version for Vista. And yes, I know what a whopping lot of work that'll be, again, sorry, you have work cut out for you. I'd offer to help but can't code my way out of a wet paper sack.

I'll check back from time to time to see if a Vista version exists, will run it when I can. Thanks for taking the time to read this!
