The thing about setting 'no network activity' in BOINC is that is a global setting -- affects all projects handled on that particular computer. I long ago heeded the recommendations to have multiple projects on computers to take advantage of that feature which BOINC has to offer and to 'insulate' me from project specific problems.
So, instead of setting 'no network activity', what I do is simply 'suspend' the down project and shift CPU cycles to other projects. But I'm one of those anxiety types, I'm less bothered when a project is offline, than I am by 'unknowns' -- that is, I've not seen a message or bulletin indicating that the Grid admins are aware of the specific problem here (being a Sunday, I suspect they are not in situ anyway). The thing is, over the past year or more, I've seen Grid and Einstein as the most reliable of BOINC projects out there, so it really puts me off my feed when either of these projects has a bad hair day, week or month, and the last two months over at Einstein have not been all that happy, so now when I get gridlocked, it distresses me. ![]() |

Bearcat, if u are able to download work units, that's positive as crunching can continue. As to when the servers are booted back into service..... hope that this Sunday one of the techs checks up on the status.
----------------------------------------Getting results back home.... if it delays till tomorrow, everyone will have a double score and PTabolinky a tripple. At to PT's point, depending on the sequence of service restore, the work is still going to be validated if the 4th copy is send out before #3 comes back, long as #3 comes back before #4. Then normally it is converted to a "Too Late", but don't know if for these situations a grace period exists. Added: BarryZ, yes suspending the whole project on a multi-project BOINC machine would do it, but was unsure if sending results back is being stopped by that option. Just tested it, and WCG project continues to attempt to send results back in 5.8.8.... although by now is says 'retry in 4:56 minutes"

The project files and the client_state.xml file are inseparable. I could conjure up a scenario/sequence how to do that, but than i get the blame for it flying in the face if not working. It goes like this: 1. Suspend all work in buffer (on machine A). 2. Set the network to OFF and set Fetch work to No. 3. Take a full copy of BOINC and is project dirs 4. Copy it to other machine (call it B). 5. Activate those work units u want crunching on machine A. 6. Activate those work units u want crunching on machine B. 7. Let all do their thing. 8. Once servers are up again flush completed work of machine A. 9. Close BOINC A and delete!!!!!! 10. Copy BOINC from B. to A. 11. Abort the work units originally done by A, but suspended for B. 12. Flush work done by B on A. 13. Reactivate the Fetch work 14. Never end with 13 points, so pray on your bare knees on a pinned cushion that it works. This is entirely untried and I deny all and every responsibility for this out of the box thinking (if u can call it that). ![]() OK, pretty much what I thought. Thanks for the imput. Hey, it's life, crap happens and we'll get through it. ![]() ![]() |

I've been doing this for a month and already hate the glitches. Just started another computer 2 days ago. Those faah files seems to be a pain with glitches. Shut my connection down for awhile. I'll try again in a couple hours to see if it's taking wu's.

I know it's Super Bowl Sunday. But is anyone working on this problem today? I don't see any mention of it in the official messages section. WCG/BOINC seems to be having a lot more issues now than it used to.

How much longer before the server is back up and accepting wu? Also, seen a linux file in the files to download as well as an apple file? What are these for? Randy This is weird, I've not had a problem all day in either downloading or uploading/reporting results via Boinc Just to check - I've just done a manual results upload now on all my rigs and also got downloads with no problem - I am using 5.4.11 and crunching FAAH. |

Hi Adywebb
----------------------------------------It's a toss of a coin there are 2 servers (Probably more in some sort of cluster who know's they won't tell us no matter how many times we ask) but they don't seem to load share between them you are either stuck with one or the other. Looks like we've drawn the short straw today (again )Keep crunching for us Dave ![]() |

I am having these problems as well. First, MD5 checksum errors (Genome Comparison project) last evening at 11pm Mountain Time. Had to reset project and chose another project. Nada so far!
----------------------------------------Tried to install Boinc boinc_5.8.8_windows_intelx86.exe. using recommendations posted at WCG. Any known problem? I think I *may* need to download the newest Windows installer. Anyone know what the newest version of that is? 12 hours of downtime! Edit: Currently using the UD Agent for now. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 2 times, last edit by Johnny Cool at Feb 4, 2007 8:23:28 PM] |

It's back!!
----------------------------------------Thank you IBM Johnny C the 5.8.8 upgrade seems fairly straightforward. For the first time in a long time my agents seem to be taking notice of the "Connect every X days" setting finally my WU queue is back 5 days on 5.8.8 that should keep my crunchers busy the next time Enjoy the Superbowl whatever your side it's as unfathomable to us Brits as Cricket is to you guys Have a good party Dave ![]() |

I was finally able to upload/download. Still have a few faah files that won't go upload. I went ahead and adjust my connection to 4 days to get enough work to avoid down time. I will just manually connect ever few days. At least this way I can keep on crunching due these bad times.
