Can't Register

My daughter has installed the latest software on her new computer, but she is unable to get it going. After the install, she filled out the registration screen and hit the "Login" button, but gets the error "Error in contacting or registering with the Grid Server. Please try again later." She tried a number of times yesterday, but got that error each time.

When she booted up this morning, she got the registration screen again, but is still getting the error. We have tried different member names and grid agent names, but still get the error. I have checked firewall settings and network connectivity and everything should be fine.

What else could be causing this?

Re: Can't Register

There is a problem,

See Rick Alther's announcement in the Known Issues forum. This is always a good place to start if there seems to be a general website problem. It sounds as if it may take a little while to resolve.

Don't give up though - you can be confident it will be fixed.

David.

Re: Can't Register

Thanks for the info. I saw that message, but the error mentioned there is different from what we are getting. Our's doesn't mention anything about licensing.

We'll keep trying!

Thanks

Re: Can't Register

If it's not the licensing issue reported by various and posted about in the known issues, it may well be another thing like the security software. Suggest to re-register when that is switched off.

Given that the licensing issue is bound to be encountered even if other problems are resolved, suggest to either wait for the all clear on the UD agent or try installing the BOINC agent. Also because 'your daughters new computer' is likely dual core it is able to run twice as many work units.

Re: Can't Register

Thanks to davidhobbs and Sekerob for the quick replies!

I just tried signing in here with my daughter's member name, and it did already exist. She then remembered signing up for WCG about a year ago and even rembered the password. We checked the "existing member" check box on the registration screen and are now getting the licensing issue.

She will continue to try and register.

Thanks again, and Happy New Year!
