Why is ranking so high?

I'm trying to understand what is causing my points ranking to be in the low 200's/high 100's when my max potential points/day are ~ 2230.
[i.e., 3 pc's running 24 hour/day at 31 points per hour, on average.]

Based on the 2230/day, it would seem my points ranking should converge to high 500's. High 500's is where 2230 falls in yesterday's ranking for all members. I've checked 10 different days, 2230 always falls in the mid to high 500's.

Thanks.

fj

Looking at your stat's and without doing much math, they seem to be OK and in line with similar members to you. You do show 7 device installations but I don't know if they are all still running.

I think you should be commended for your excellent contribution to the project. You are ahead of me smile

cool Re: Why is ranking so high?

Hmmm… By the time I had the stats all compared, Dataman beat me to it. But here is what I had.

fj, I need some more explanation of what to look for. Pulling up the member comparisons in Global Statistics, I see that you are ranked #207 in Total Points whereas I am #3599. On average you get 1915 points a day while I get 498 points. I am uncertain just what you think is wrong?

Right, but if you look at the 'rank' of members that completed 1915 points yesterday, they are ranked in high 700's. So, why isn't my point ranking close to 800 instead of the low 200's?

I'm thinking this may indicate churn among members - i.e., maybe many members don't stay active long enough for their averages per day accumulate.

I would guess that is very possible that you may be turning in 1915 points every day, while those who are ranked close to 800 are turning in 1915 points only once every 4 or 5 days... If they don't turn in results every day, they will have a lower daily average, lower total points, and therefore a lower ranking. Remember that points submitted on any given day is not the same as their daily average.

cool Re: Why is ranking so high?

Now I understand. Since I am not really interested in points, I normally just look at 'Yesterday' to see how I am doing. And I am steadily dropping farther back as more and more people with newer computers pile in. However, my rank for Total Points looks much better, since I joined on 16 Nov 2004, the same as you. It takes longer for new members to pass the Total Point score of an older member. I hope that I am not discouraging you by pointing out that the competition is getting tougher. [Grin]

Thanks for responding.

Right. But, with 30,000+ members, I'm thinking that this type of case is small compared to the total population - that sound right?
I checked out a few members profiles around the 2230 points - they all had 2-4 pc installed = leads me to think they have the ability to average 2200 points/day.

If so, seems to get us back to the reason they are ranked in the 500's is due to member churn.
