Consequences of running the agent

In the past I've been running the UD agent over extended periods of time.
It took over all idle time of my thinkpad and didn't have any noticable impact on performance while it was running in low priority.
But the heat generated was noticable and the cooling fan ran almost continuously at times.
This ended up in a lot of noise while the fan wore out and had to be replaced twice. I'm not sure if it was the fan or the systemboard that had to be replaced.
I very much would like to contribute to this project and I've installed the new agent again.
I'll just wait and see if it will have the same consequences.....

Anyone else had the same experience?

The saddest tale is by one person who's laptop always shuts down from overheating if he tries to run VirusScan on his hard disk drive. The WCG Agent is also too tough on his laptop. There are a number of smaller threads where people bring this up.

Re: Consequences of running the agent

Well maybe you can try the program called threadmaster. It gives you the permission to give a process only xx% of you cpu so it will generate less heat but it will also slow down the calculations!

Thanks for this link. I agree with the following:

"There is no option to diminish cpu usage. This program should have one."

Will uninstall until a future version corrects this oversight.
