Yesterday most CPU time in past year

So a quick scan of the list makes it look like the 149 CPU Years processed yesterday is quite possibly the most time processed on any given day in the past year, possibly ever if anybody's ambitious enough to check every single day of results.

Re: Yesterday most CPU time in past year

I wonder if this is related to a situation we observed at SpaceCat Station a couple of days ago. One of our members, 300zxtt, was awarded almost 10,000 points and over 300 hours run time above his normal average throughput. There was no corresponding increase in results for that day.

Several conjectures have been offered at DCZone's forum but none really explain the reason for it. Can anyone linked to the project offer their views on it?

If this has happened to a lot of other volunteers then it could account for the big jump in project throughput on one day.

The image below shows the effect on our team's stats graphs.

Re: Yesterday most CPU time in past year

Hmm, I saw a post the other day about some problem and that the admins would be going back to get credits awarded to affected users. Naturally, I can't find that now that I go looking for it. If I do, I'll add a link. The timeframes seem to coincide well. Does that user run one particular project? or was having any kind of problem getting credit for WU's?

edit:

AH HA! NOW I find it. Look at knreed's response in the next to last post in this thread: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=10267 That was on the 8th and your teammate got the credit on the 9th.

Re: Yesterday most CPU time in past year

I think that was a different problem. As I recall, it wasn't a long outage either plus that was on the day after the user got all the extra points. Edited my prior post as I found the link I recalled seeing.

Re: Yesterday most CPU time in past year

I am unsure which projects he runs but will endeavor to find out.

Both the links that have been posted were interesting but surely those conditions would also have shown an increase in results for the same day, being the work units they were being credited for.

Or am I wrong in believing that the result is not added to your total until it is validated?

Re: Yesterday most CPU time in past year

You are right, Evodude. BOINC points are added the day that they are validated.

Re: Yesterday most CPU time in past year

And don't results returned update when you return the result, not when it validates thinking If runtime and points update at validation - which would make sense - then what we see in the team graphs would fit the circumstances. I believe that's the normal BOINC behavior. If the user suddenly got credit for a large number of workunits, they would have already been reflected in results returned but not in points/runtime. Does that user run HDC WU's only? Still, it would be good to get an admin's take on this.

Re: Yesterday most CPU time in past year

For BOiNC, both Results and Points count for the statistics the moment they get validated....u'd see it reflected after the next 6 hourly update run.

If validation is delayed on a global scale, like we had on Sunday, one immediately sees this mirrored in the graphs like the one sampled above. Thus Sunday went like 30, 27, 24, 44 CPU years. If such validation delay spills over into the next day, which has and could happen, you'd seen a spike in last Sundays case e.g. on Monday.

All global trends are normal...... the projects are stabilizing after 2 new project starts and fixes of the graphs introduced, thus more work is coming thru. Member growth in the first part of the month has been above average.
