When I installed the BOINC client, WCG didn't allow me to give a name of my choice for the device. Instead it picked the corporate network name of my computer, which obviously is a clear text of my real name and the company I work for.
When I did 'Folding@Home' I used my real name - only to find my stats in Google later on. ![]() Hence I don't want to use my real name here, nor the name of my employer. Is there a way to change the name of my BOINC device? Otherwise I'd have to use the UD device, but which is missing out the relevant advanced options. Thanks |

Hi TGIF,
----------------------------------------It is not possible to change the device name. What u could do, if not interested in per-device statistics, is to re-register the device... detach, change the name of the computer in the system control panel and add the project back. The name to BOiNC is part of the unique identifier... i.e. the name in the DB, the Agent and the Computer are matched. That name will stay with it, whatever BOiNC project u connect to it. UD uses a different algorithm, not associated to the computer name, thus if u change the name on the website, it will copy the name from the website back to the device. If it's a corporate computer, also make sure u have permission to use the device on the WCG project. cheers
WCG
