See another thread, where i just resolved it for an extreme slow HPF2. It was the antivirus blocking progress, thus u might want to try to disconnect from the internet, do a full virus/spam scan. Then completely unload all antivirus and spam and firewall software and see if it starts running at normal speeds. cheers Which thread? It would be extremely difficult for me to unload all the virus scanning/firewall software on all these machines. I'd be curious as to which flavor of antivirus software was the culprit and what signature version they were using. ![]() |

![]() The only unusual thing about HDC is the large memory size required and the large check point file ( http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=minimumreq ). If that does not point you toward anything, then maybe changing your profile to crunch anything but HDC is the easiest (though unsatisfying) solution. Lawrence |

I had been crunching HDC without issues for quite some time before I ran into this issue. I have since stopped running HDC due to the fact that there seems to be no solution on the horizon. Since I have cancer, I'm a bit partial to crunching HDC work units, but don't want the computers that I'm using to be crunching and never reaching conclusion.
----------------------------------------Thankfully, BOINC lets me fill the void with some other worthwhile projects while I wait. Thanks ![]() |

If it's understood correctly, that u cannot get anything from WCG, even when ticking all but the HDC project of WCG, but same time can do other Distributed Computing projects (NOT WCG?), U might want to try 'reset'. Go to the projects tab, select WCG and hit the button. If that does not do the trick, detach from WCG and re-attach. It will re-establish the relationship and verify the secure components.
----------------------------------------U speak of computers in the plural..... do they all have the same issue? 750mb ram specification is a bit stingy..... discussions were to update the requirement to 1gb and suppose that most do have that......few will physically have 764mb. If u have a fresh log regarding denial of work transmission, please post with computer ID or send message to Contact US, so the technicians could have a look. Include 5-10 lines from before and after the key lines for completeness.

I am able to run pretty much *any* BOINC project. I am still running FAAH as well as SIMAP, Malaria Control, SETI, and Rosetta. The *only* problem I'm having is with HDC WU's, which were working fine until I reported the problem in my first post. I have multiple machines and they *all* fail to run HDC WU's even though they match the specifications given for that project. I assumed, due to a prior post, maybe incorrectly, that there was a bug with the HDC Wu's that was causing a problem. I have been waiting for word of a solution so I can get back to crunching HDC WU's.

What are the commonalities of the machines as no one is reporting an "all machine" problem? If all are running on the same BOINC profile, the allocated size of VM (and space to grow) and project allocation, which should be like ample, could cause them refusal to run. The models are demanding and do build to sometimes over 1gb a piece. Suggest to verify that your profile settings meet the below.
----------------------------------------
Else, cannot think of why they wont run. Do they today even download if u select HDC only in your profile after making sure to hit the 'update' button in the Projects tab, when WCG is selected?

Hello stwainer,
Does BOINC only write 3 lines when it attempts to run a HDC unit? That is all that you have posted. What version of BOINC are you running? Could you copy the start of the BOINC log which includes some system information? Program Files/BOINC/stdoutdae.txt should contain the message log from a period when you were trying to run HDC. We do not have much information to work with. This is not a problem that other people have been reporting. Lawrence |
