Trying to understand the "switchimage"

I've been searching the net, teh docu, and the forum, but obviously not using the right serach terms. So, would anyone please point me to the right place, or describe in a few sentences:

What is the "switchimage"

I stumbled accross this when using the PhocaGallery Plugin, and have included the following:

{phocagallery view=switchimage|switchheight=360|switchwidth=416|basicimageid=97}

But nothing is shown.

Die Funktion SwitchImage ist seit J4 nicht mehr im Content Plugin enthalten.

Aus Interesse: Wozu war das gut. Ganz kurz nur.

Es gab ein großes Hauptbild und mehrere kleine darunter. Wenn man mit der Maus über die kleine Vorschau fuhr, wurde anstelle des großen Bildes das entsprechende Bild angezeigt.
