V2.1.2 vs V1.3.9

I have taken the (seemingly stupid) decision to build a site in J1.7 (previous fun was always in J1.5.23 etc). The J1.7 is horridly slow but until that gets sorted, I have a question about how PDL differs in setup between the 1.3.9 release for J1.5 and the 2.1.2 for J1.7.

In 1.3.9, I could setup the look and feel of a document such as the behaviour of the preview button, whether to show the detail button or not using the options in Component Parameters of the menu item in question.

Why can;t I see these levels of detail in the 2.1.2 version under J1.7?

The answer is easy, because joomla v1.6/v1.7 don't support "the options in Component Parameters of the menu item".

Oh . ok I wasn't ware of that limitation.

Is there a way to configure the PDL file to make it display the "Description" under the filename (like it used to with (OverLib + Bottom) and to show the preview Button or are these no longer supported in 212 because of J1.7 situation? I can see the "Preview" field in the file setup screen but can't figure out where to set the output to show it. If its under "Layout", I must have got confused! Can you advise?
