Problem when creating categories and selecting files.

Hey guys.

I'm trying to create a website for my family, where they should be able to upload and download files for them to edit. I came across Phoca Download which seemed to be the solution for this problem. However, I can't seem to get the extension properly installed. Originally I was runnin 1.6, but after having trouble with both 2.1.0 and 2.0.1 I decided to downgrade my Joomla-installation to 1.5 and get the 1.5 version of Phoca Download as well.

However, I can't upload a file in the backend because the "browse"-button simply doesn't appear. There's a button for creating a folder, but not one to browse files from my local harddrive. On top of that, I can't create a file before I've created a category. And when I try to create a category, I get the error-message: "Error while saving Phoca Download Categories" which doesn't give me a lot to go after, to say the least.

So, my question is: How do i get the Phoca Download extension up and running on my site? Is there a tutorial somewhere, because I can't seem to find one? And if this isn't something to be solved, do you have any suggestions for another extension that could do the job for me, and is easier to work with?

Check your Joomla! installation, enable php error reporting and debug mode to check why you cannot save the items, etc.:
