1 files, multiple categories
Is there a way to have 1 file be listed in multiple categories?

Re: 1 files, multiple categories
Hi, yes, you cannot add one file into more categories but you can create more files (filenames) which will give to download one (the same) file
e.g.
file1 (ID 1) will be saved in Category 1 (downloadable file will be: file.doc)
file1 (ID 2) will be saved in Category 2 (downloadable file will be the same as in Category 1)

Re: 1 files, multiple categories
Hi Jan,
I need to have some files to be in 2 categories. I'm not clear on your answer about how to do this. I think you are saying you can upload the same image twice (or more) into the phocagallery database, and it creates a different ID the second time. Is that correct? Can I have the name for both?
Is there a way to copy/duplicate a image in the phocagallery and assign a new category to the copied image? This way I would not have to retype the description?
Is there anyway to avoid retyping the description each time?
Thank you very much for your help!

Re: 1 files, multiple categories
Hi:
Actually he's saying that you only need to upload the file once and then you can reuse the same instance of the file in multiple places (more efficient storage wise). You can just just give it a different title and description in each category.
I was asking a similar question about copying/duplicating to avoid retyping also. There's got to be an easier way to add multiple files especially when some of the data is reusable/redundant.
I would love to do it from a spreadsheet import

Hi, if there is an image and thumbnails was created, you can add this image into more categories (add) and no more same thumbnails will be created.

Re: 1 files, multiple categories
Hi, I was able to add one image (file) to multiple categores, by:
Adding my images as usuall, with one category per image, then went to multiple add and you see a list of your existing categories (folders) at the top of the page, I clicked on the folder name where i knew the image was and it opened a list of images in that category. I ticked the box to the left of the image, and at the top 'category' drop-down box, selected the name of the 2nd category i wanted the image to be in, then i clicked save. The image is now showing in 2 categores and I haven't had to upload anything. I assume this can be done with several images at a time. I also found that if you delete an image from a category it doesnt delete it from both categories, which is really handy if you make a mistake.

Re: 1 files, multiple categories
Please answer me! How to show a product in two categories, but the link to this product is only one? I ask this because in terms of SEO is imperative to avoid duplicate content. Thanks!

Re: 1 files, multiple categories
Hi, sorry I don't understand, if you mean file with product, you just need to do two file instances - one for one category and second for second category, there is no option to have one file in more categories. Both instances are different (different id), so there is no problem with duplicity.
