Firewall issue when trying to connect second node to genesis node (both nodes are hosted on ubuntu vms)

+2 votes

Im trying to get a test mutlichain set up, that is literally get two nodes up and running but no matter what I do (firewall settings on both the host computers and within the linux os on the virtual machines I keep running into the following error.

cannot connect  to the seed node IP:Port … make sure multichain is running at that address and firewall settings...

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get around it?

Is it becase im doing it on a VM, is a stand a lone box neccessary?

Hey Freddie! I'm trying to do exactly the same and I was wondering if you were finally able to find a solution, so that I can save time on searching ? :P
Thanks in advance!

There's no reason why you can't run multiple MultiChain nodes under multiple VMs on a computer, but you do need to ensure that you are giving MultiChain the right IP addresses for those VMs, in terms of how they can connect to each other. When MultiChain launches you may be shown more than one possible "node address" for external nodes to use to connect, so you may want to try other ones. Or consult your VM documentation to understand what IP address to use when connecting from one VM to the other.
