What is the actual need for rescan=true in importaddress?

I'm able to view the transactions of the address I imported using the importaddress command, even though I set the rescan parameter to "false" in the importaddress command. So under what scenario we'll actually find rescan=true as useful?

You should use rescan=true if there are already transactions relating to that address in the blockchain, at the time that you call importaddress.
