How and when are assets saved?

Question

When our node eventually crashes during large number of assets insertion, why are even the already existing assets deleted? How and when are assets saved?

Like any transaction, it remains in-memory until it enters a block in the blockchain. Generally you will have multiple nodes set up, and the transactions propagate between them, even before they enter the blockchain.
