AUGH!!!!!!!!!! Having a bad day!
First, DS#1 (10th grade) comes home and tells me that according to his homeroom teacher - the hours that he and several classmates spent helping to build a classroom for a school in Tanzania MIGHT NOT count for community service hours and IF they count - they'll only get part credit!!! GEEZ - these kids spent 2 full days with pick-axes and shovels and buckets.....digging out dirt, carrying away the rubble, and helping to lay the concrete foundation. THAT won't count for community service!!! What on earth do they want????? It was a fabulous experience and he really feels good about the work he did - but shoot.....if the teachers don't think it's worth CS hours - IIwould have saved the $$$ and had him sell Kool-Aid at soccer games!
THEN - I find out that a child was almost hit crossing the street in our subdivision on the way to school because the security guard was not paying attention, didn't have the traffic cones out and a car came speeding down the street - narrowly missing the boy! This place has no sense of security or safety and NO ONE can be bothered to enforce rules - so no one follows them!!! The only cars that are supposed to be on that street are people who live in the subdivision. People going to/from the school are supposed to go another route. But because it is quicker to go on this street - many of the drivers don't follow the signs. This has been a problem since we moved here and no one can manage to solve it. I think it's going to take a child actually getting hit before someone acts!!!
Sorry - needed to vent! Feel better now. Thanks! ETA: NOW I find out that during the middle of the day yesterday - a pre-K student managed to leave the Early Learning Center building, walk all the way across campus, exit the back gate, and walk to his house (1/2 block away) .......and NO ONE knew about it until the mother brought him back!! Good thing the mom was home!
OH HONEY I AM SO SORRY super big hugs to you!!! I do hope that you have a better day tomorrow!!!

((HUGS)) It does sound like a bad day, and a scary one with all the near-misses on the children.
Pam - and aren't you the one who wrote on another post.......?????We are at -12 or so with 40-50 mph wind gusts, making our wind chill minus 8 billion or something.
I'm sure there are "cool" houses by you!!!
Still upset about all this - but have had dinner, am now having a Jack Daniels & DIet Coke and going to Bunco later.

How frustrating. Sorry you have to deal with all that!

So sorry to hear about your "Bad Baku Day".The IB folks should certainly count the time spent building a classroom for a school in Tanzania as valid community service hours!Perhaps your subdivision (or neighbors) should built a few speed bumps in the street to slow racing drivers. Make it a royal pain to drive that way.Hope tomorrow is better.

Hi Cathy!!!!! Thanks for "listening" to me rant!!!!!!I think part of our problem with the CS hours is that the person responsible for monitorying it for the kids announced in October that she (and her husband) were leaving at the end of the year and they have really mentally "checked out!" She just doesn't seem to care about doing anything anymore. Haven't heard back about any of this.....but it is still high on my radar! As for the safety stuff.......we have speed bumps. The local drivers slow down (almost to a stop) to go over the bumps and then speed up in between them. This has been a battle for over 2 years. It is just so frustrating.
