I'm going to Penn State audiology today to get fitted for hearing aids. Lol I personally blame my Dad who couldn't hear for crap and always had his war movies and westerns volume on loud enough it could have been louder than the actual event. He inspected the work of jet engines repairmen for the govt so he was always around loud noises.
Anyway I'm off to get fitted this AM. Tests were already done and they are moderate to severe hearing loss in both ears.

Oh Sher!!! I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU!!! It's not about being an old person but about living your best life now. Hearing aids are SO life-changing! I also have moderate to severe in both ears. I got my hearing aids in 2020 during the pandemic because with everybody in masks, I couldn't read lips and had not realized how much I depended on that. The first time I put the HA in, I wasn't facing my husband and he asked the dr a question and I answered him, without seeing that he was speaking. He was astonished! After I got my hearing aids, I was honestly SO surprised at how much I wasn't hearing. Like, everything has a noise attached it it. I could never figure out how everybody in my house knew where everybody else was....until I learned the floorboards made noise LOL! Things like that. It might be overwhelming in the beginning until your brain learns to filter out what is "background noise" but you will be like a kid again - what's that noise, what sound does this make, soda fizz makes noise too LOL. And your grandbaby's voice...awww!!! I'm truly so excited for you! Let us know how it goes!!

I agree with Anne-Marie! Age is nothing . . . it's about a great life! I'm sure it will be overwhelming at first, but I bet you will be excited at how much of life you can now hear! Good luck!

OCD is not an adjective. It is not a personality quirk. It is not synonymous with being organized. It is a complex and debilitating mental health illness that affects people of all ages and walks of life, and is defined by the presence of unwanted, intrusive thoughts and repetitive actions. I am an OCD warrior and I fight for my son.
that's definitely exciting! wonderful news--i hope you enjoy being able to hear more clearly now

Went well! I had 16 choices to choose from. LOL!! I thought WHAT??? I had a great doctor who explained the levels to me. She said I could basically get over the ear, partially over the ear, in the ear canal, or not being able to see them. Of course that was the level of prices, too. Well, she said that the last one "not seeing" them is strictly like buying a Ferrari, as opposed to a Toyota or Nissan. She said it's if you really don't want to advertise you have an issue hearing. I said NOPE, that's not for me, they were three times the price of the lowest end of them. She said the first two choices are obvious, as are the third. She said most opt for the over the ear so they don't feel their ears are clogged. I said what about hearing, what is the difference in actually the hearing. She said there of course a slight difference from 1 and level 4, but not a lot. She said maybe decide in or out. I said I really want in my ear, since I play on/off with my glasses and that way I won't be fighting the hearing aids as I slide them on and off. My sister who went with me said Yep, I never thought of that. So we opted for the higher level of hearing yet in my ear canal. Not the expensive one, but the close to it. Then they put the clay in my ear and then she said I can get them on December 18th! I guess a lot of people don't hear. The big surprise came when my insurance will issue me a check for $1000 for them, once I pay for them. So that's about half. Then my sister said "Merry Christmas" and paid the rest. I'm so overwhelmed!! She said use the money for Christmas!

YAY!!! I've been waiting all day to hear how it went! Yeah there are so many different kinds. I have the over the ear kind and wear glasses but the HA are so small it's not really an issue with the glasses. I think we all think having something in your ear is going to feel like it's "clogged" but I think that is if you can't hear through it. I am constantly checking that I actually still have them in because I don't feel them. I'm sure once you get used to them, you won't feel them either. And how sweet is your sister! Buy her something nice for Christmas LOL!
Happy Scrapping!

I'm so glad you went and had a great experience with a knowledgeable provider! And the cherry on top - insurance issuing a check and then your sweet sister gifting the rest!
