I'd rather play the Mets than the Sox. LOL!scrappinmom99 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 5:01 pmVickiR wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2024 6:45 pmAnyone watching? I am, especially the American league. I grew up with the Pirates, lived in Baltimore with the Orioles for 17 years and near the Yankees for 10. I have to say I'm still a Yankee fan at heart. You either love them or hate them. They are truly a class act and I admire that they look like professionals.
No comment on the Yankees other than it would be fun to have another Subway Series like in 2000!!!
Half of my in-laws are Yankees fans, the other half Mets fans. When my FIL used to come visit I would razz him by putting his only grandson LOL in a Red Sox shirt (after the Red Sox won the World Series).

I was a huge Daddy's Girl - so anything he liked, I liked by default. I grew up during Fernandomania (was born in '81) and have followed along since I can remember. I feel close to my Dad when I watch games now... so even though he has passed, we still share that!
I think we are heading back to LA so we can clinch our trip to the World Series in front of the home team since COVID kept us from that in 2020!
Go BLUE!! Go Dodgers!!!
Aww, I'm glad it makes you feel close to him. During one of the last regular season games, one of the ladies I pushed in a wheelchair was 90 years old and was an original Dodgers fan. She said when they moved, it tore the heart out of her and she couldn't watch baseball until the Mets came around. She was singing along and chanting and waving her wineglass as we went. Big family with her. I was honored to push her.
We seem to be going back and forth the Mets and Dodgers. Tonight is go big or go home for us. This is how it was in 1986 so I'm hoping for a repeat. Let's Go Mets! (although I am exhausted from work and if they lose, there is no more work LOL, but as a fan I'd love them to win and play a Subway Series since the Yankees won!)
Happy Scrapping!

She says "the men announcers really have nothing to say" ha ha, We love football too so when the games overlap, she is ready to watch football saying she is tired of baseball.
I love your mom's attitude! We like particular announcers (Keith Hernandez, Howie Rose, and Ron Darling plus a few others). Some of them just talk to hear themselves talk! Tonight the Mets and Jets are on at the same time - like NFL why are you putting the Jets on so many night games this year?! We'll be watching the Mets and checking in with the Jets since it's the playoffs and game 6!

Then I moved and watched Payton Manning and Aaron Rogers, but I agree, Football has changed , in my opinion ,a not good way. I hate the controversy and show off selfish behavior. So I get bored fast. Still watch the Bills with my SIL , and the Jets sometimes!GinniG wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2024 8:47 pmI'm not a baseball fan - especially on TV. It can get quite boring. Sometimes I'll watch it if someone else is watching.
I used to be a HUGE NFL fan. I'd bring my scrappy stuff into the dining room on Sundays and Mondays and watch the games while I was scrapping. Then we moved up here and didn't even have electricity for almost 2 months! We would go to the library parking lot where we could connect to the internet and had a cell signal and take care of things then come back home. LOL! We didn't get our own internet for about a year and then it was very limited and not very good. I think it was almost 2 years before we finally got the HughesNet dish. Now we have unlimited internet through the local electric company (VERY expensive but we really use it!) and we don't have slow downs or pauses or anything.
Then the players started kneeling and all that nonsense and it really upset me. And so I didn't watch much anymore. Now I'll watch the Thursday night games if I'm home and remember. I used to be a Redskins fan but they changed the name and they were constantly losing so I really lost interest. It seems to be much better now so I'm glad that I can still occasionally watch a game and enjoy it. But never like I used to.
I still Love Baseball. Been to many games. Favorite Team is the Angels! However I watch the Dodgers to see Shoei Ohtani ! I have followed him for years!
Love all the old quarterbacks you mentioned! Well Aaron Rodgers is old but still playing for my Jets LOL. I've followed the Jets since the day it clicked what "1st and 10" meant in the 90s lol. Ohtani is exciting to watch and broke one of the lights at Citi Field this season lol. I used to follow Mike Piazza when he was on the Dodgers (still have his Dodgers shirt) but was beyond thrilled when he got traded to the Mets.
Happy Scrapping!

I had several friends ask me to go again on Wednesday but my nephew had a soccer game and it is his senior year. They asked because my record this season was 8-2. I do not have cable so I listen to most games on the radio. Bob Uecker still calls a few innings at home games and he is a hoot to listen to. I am sad that they lost in the first round of the playoffs this season but am hopeful that they can have a better run in the next few years with Yeli coming back next year (it sounds like his surgery was very successful) and Woody too (Brandon Woodruff). I will probably watch some of the World Series because those games are on network TV. I will also revolt if Brice Turang does not win the Gold Glove for 2nd base.
I'm going to revolt because Lindor wasn't even nominated for Gold Glove!! Oooh you are the good luck charm! I went to 1 Mets game as a fan this year and they lost. Whenever DH & I go to a game, they lose LOL!

So the Mets are out, boohoo! The fan in me is disappointed, but the employee in me is relieved LOL! Anyway....Let's go Dodgers now! I'm sorry, I cannot, in good conscience, root for the Yankees...I just can't.

I grew up with the Pirates too! And still here with them! Well, yes I will watch the World Series, I enjoyed the playoff games that I was able to watch. For some reason I will watch the finals of any sport, so suspenseful! I am routing for New York cause Garrett Cole was here in PGH years ago. Of course all the good ones leave. I will also hope for a long series as I like to see it go to the end LOL.
