How far would you go to protect your loved ones? Would you cross time and space? These are the questions facing June Farrow.
Generations of Farrow women have been plagued by a curse. No one knows how or why it begins, all they know is that at some point, the Farrow women will start hallucinating: seeing, hearing, smelling, and even feeling things that aren’t there. It will be chalked up to “madness” and “hysteria”, and is even given as the reason why June’s mom left her in an alleyway when she was seven months old, then walked into the woods and disappeared forever. But when a mysterious photo arrives in the mail for June, postmarked from her deceased grandmother, she begins to think there might be something more to this curse than she’s been told.
When June’s hallucinations begin, she starts keeping a journal: feeling arms around her in the morning, hearing wind chimes, seeing a strange figure in the window, and the most unusual of all – a single red door appearing in the middle of a field. When June finally confides in her long-time caretaker, Birdie, that her hallucinations have begun, Birdie gives her a necklace and an envelope and tells her to walk through the red door the next time she sees it. June does, but is unprepared for what’s on the other side, and that it might just provide all the answers she’s been longing for.
OPTION 1: GENERATIONS
The book spans many generations, going back to June’s great-great-grandmother and including her daughter. So, for Option 1, make a page that includes at least one photo featuring at least three generations of family members.
Option 1 sample with three generations: me with my parents, husband, and daughters at Thanksgiving
OPTION 2: HALLUCINATIONS
There are several hallucinations that recur to June throughout the book: the feeling of someone’s arms around her, wind chimes, a figure in the window, and the red door. For Option 2, pick one of the hallucinations and make a page that includes the matching element below (and be sure to point it out on your page when you post your layout):
- Someone’s arms around her: use a photo of two (or more) people (or animals) embracing
- Wind chimes: use a photo that includes an instrument
- A figure in the window: arrange four elements (photos, pieces of paper, journaling cards, etc.) into a grid to form a square or rectangle
- The red door: use a solid red piece of cardstock as your background paper or a photo mat
Option 2 sample of "a figure in the window": four elements arranged in a square grid
