Very cool & creative add-on! 
I had to be creative too ~ without a machine, I lost 3 rows!  lol
So this one I did the diagonal - scissors - fussy cut the circles from ppr,  paper trimmer - for the pix,  and mixed media tools - stencil and painting knife

And for this one the middle row - hole punch (diamond shapes), the paper trimmer for all the papers,  and the distress tool to rough them up

For this layout, I used the top row 3,  middle row 3 bottom row 1  - Used my cricut for the tennis balls and heart beat, paper trimmer for matting photos and background paper, inked the edges of the word patterned paper in Tim Holtz distress ink - black soot.
