I have to clean my fridge today. It has a number of scary things starting to grow in there! So, my question is, how often do you clean your fridge and what do you find?
a. once a week
b. once a month
c. when I can't fit anything else into it
d. when I run out of storage containers for leftovers
e. I don't...just let things take over and multiply in the back. lol

I found a pig in a blanket (hot dog weiner in a biscuit) that had fallen to the back behind a drawer. It was bad. Thank goodness it was in a baggie.Art_Teacher wrote: a. once a week

Then, I have found Hot Wheels cars in the freezer. They changed color when they got cold, but they actually were supposed to be used with water and had little containers you could drive them into on the tracks. But I wouldn't let DS play with water very often.

If I spill something, the I clean it up. Occ I will see that I need to really clean and will, but mostly NOT!

Odd things - keys (my dad used to leave his keys in the fridge when he was supposed to take leftovers home) and garbage (my mom used to freeze the garbage until garbage day so that the racoons wouldn't get into it). Can't think of anything else odd though.

once a week, the night before trash pick up!

Ours leaks/drips so we have to empty the 'drip bowl' almost weekly. Otherwise I throw out leftovers we won't use when we're out of room... but going thru & cleaning out the whole thing? Pretty much never.
I don't know how 'odd' things I throw out are... we're really bad about eating leftover fries (like from a restaurant - they'd be fine reheated in the toaster oven but I just don't make the effort) or bread. Stuff that's good fresh & we think we don't want to waste it, but don't get to as leftovers. I have a lot of various condiments & sometimes they'll need to be tossed before I use them up. Oh and exploded biscuit cans!

Once a week now, with my parents living with us.
I haven't found anything odd as of yet, but when I used to have my brother and SIL live with us - we had found food that was about 2 yrs old. Old meats/cheeses. blah

Odd things - bag of flour - oops. Leftovers of undetermined food. Sometimes one of us puts something in a covered container and it gets pushed to the bottom back shelf. It is the hardest one for me to clean out, so I admit it may get missed from time to time.

If by "Clean out the fridge" you mean look for things to toss out, for me it's every couple of days. I can't stand a full refrigerator. Pretty much every time I put something in it, I look around to see if I can also take anything out. As long as I'm leaving empty-handed anyway.
I can't think of any odd things that I've found in there.
If you mean taking everything out and wiping it all down, that's not nearly as often as I should. Maybe two or three times a year, when I'm off work for a week and it's more empty -- because I go into it more often when I'm home -- than other times.

I give it a quick cleaning once a week or so...just to make sure there aren't creatures lurking in there. Super deep cleanings happen...eventually.
Normally, I find fruits/veggies that have long since passed away and have grown fur coats. I try to perform what I call a "search and rescue mission" when I am packing my lunch for the day in an attempt to avoid wasting food, but I tend to get lazy and my fruits/veggies pay the ultimate price for it.
I'm not sure I have found anything too wild in there. Occasionally DH leaves things in weird places (i.e. left the milk in the pantry and put his phone in the refrigerator). That is always good for a laugh. When he is missing something, I always have him check the pantry and the refrigerator now.

I usually toss uneaten leftovers in about a week. I hate running out of space so I'm usually good at keeping that up to date. My biggest culprit is finding something in the veggie drawer that has been in there way too long. Yuck. Other than that I don't find anything weird in there.
I'm a B - once a month.
The strangest thing I've found in my fridge was a package of Handi-Wipes. They were flat on the bottom of one of the drawers, underneath the meats and deli items. They got there when I told my son (who was 7 at the time) to empty the grocery bags for me because I really had to go to the restroom. He apparently believed everything from the grocery store went in the fridge!!

OCD is not an adjective. It is not a personality quirk. It is not synonymous with being organized. It is a complex and debilitating mental health illness that affects people of all ages and walks of life, and is defined by the presence of unwanted, intrusive thoughts and repetitive actions. I am an OCD warrior and I fight for my son.

This is sort of what I do…like Katie…sort of. But, fridge clean up and getting rid of or eating left overs is definitely a weakness of mine. DH does it better and gets on to me about it regularly!!! Things we have found in our fridge…an unmarked jar of apple cider vinegar that someone used to soak their feet for planter fasciatus (spelling??), fishing worms, very old squid that was on sale when my DH went to the store and bought it because it was a bargain!!! (freezer)…he didn't know how to cook it, just bought it because it was a great deal!!! FIVE years later!!! LOL!! We tossed that freezer burned baby OUT when DH wasn't looking!!! :) LOL! SCAREY!!

hmmm with only DH and I here now and I pretty much the only one who puts in or takes out stuff, it is pretty clean. In fact I clean the inside of the fridge and the microwave on the same day. Not fond of old food odors.

Dh is pretty fussy about HIS kitchen (it really is...I am just the sous chef around here lol). So it gets done once a month. Can't think of anything too weird between him cleaning it out so often and a teenage boy who eats everything in sight LOL!Art_Teacher wrote:I have to clean my fridge today. I will say once a week. I really clean it every Two weeks when I go shopping. When I put new food in I have to take some out. It's not too bad since my husband likes leftovers.
I found really old pickles and gross cheese!!

I Guess this would be my answer, but really we don't keep a fully stocked fridge b/c all the fresh foods spoil so fast, so its always in rotation. More so the questions should be how often do I have to stock it!!! lol...So I guess I'll go with....
C. When I can't fit anything else in it!
And as random things I find...sad so say...cat hair that has floated its way in somehow...dried up yogurt, onion/garlic skins, break ties, WAY expired foods in the freezer

Probably C for me but sometimes I just keep stuffing things in there until I can't stand it one more second!!
I'd say B. We're pretty good about going through leftovers but I probably go through everything, on average, once a month. I can't recall finding anything crazy.
I do a big fridge cleaning, wiping it down, etc every month.
