TOTALLY by color. Helps me so much to find things (most of the time) except for when I have to much stuff of one color. I am thinking I need to break it down even further...so for blues-- Navy, Teal, Sky type deal.

Did you leave things by type and then by color? Like all your flowers in one bin and then separated by color, or what? I'm serious...I need help! lolsuslvgeo wrote:TOTALLY by color. I don't know why both pic's loaded upside down. UGH! Anyway one pic is of the scraprack and then a pic of a page.
I'm still in the "finishing my scrap room" stage, but once I get the last 2 pieces of furniture in my room - I'm sorting all of my embellies by color - except the holidays, dog and cat and girl and boy stuff. I think I'll work better like that. I like the way Shimelle works, but it's taking me waaaay too long to go through everything to find something perfect. Please let us know how it goes for you.
That's what I want to do - buttons, metal (including brads), flowers, ribbon, etc.Art_Teacher wrote:Did you leave things by type and then by color? I purchased one of these to start storing my embellies in. http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/cle ... er-287482/
I have all my sticky gems/bling sorted by color (each of the 16 is a separate color) I ended up getting another one to sort my flowers into as well. I got hooked on these when i saw someone using them for marker storage (my first 2 were purchased to keep my spectrum noir markers in --sorted by color families). Wow you would almost thing I am organized!!
Anyhow mine were purchased at M's when there was a storage sell...I am thinking I paid about 20 for each of them ...but it's nice that everything of a particular type is in one case...just grab and look for the picture case that has the color you need.

I have items broken down such as brads, flowers and alphabets. Then I have the rest (stickers, chipboard, little embellishments etc) grouped by major colors then a multi colored section. That part if the hardest for me as I always forget to look there.Art_Teacher wrote:Did you leave things by type and then by color? I love it as it is super easy to pack for crops when everything is done by color. At least for me.

At both homes stored in drawers by type: flowers, veneers, etc.
If I have some of the papers and embellishments from a line of papers then they are housed together until paper is used up. Any left overs are popped in drawers.
Yet at Houston home three draws are in a file cabinet in their packages. There is nothing I love more then going through my embellishments for each layout! Crazy I know but reminds me of what I have and where it is. What fun....'oh I forgot I had those veneers' or 'I Found You! reactions! It's like getting scrappy treasures when I didn't even get an ACOT BOX in the mail that day!!!
My greatest addiction: Embellies!
I also realize this is no cure for your blues on storage!

These are the shelves behind my scrapdesk... The top shelf is just flowers.
The second shelf holds 2 lucite drawers with flair and wood inside. On top is a jar of large flowers, some of the AC little jars of misc embellies, and of course my favorite stamps (there are 5 metal bins of stamps elsewhere). Beside that is a smaller jar (like those with flowers) that holds buttons; beside that tins of sequins; then two jars of small ribbons (under my bright flowers). The pails beneath hold twine, markers and water pencils. And of course the spice rack for mists and paints. I have my larger spools of ribbon threaded onto a large ribbon and then hung on a coat hook. My old acrylics are stored in an antique coke bottle crate.
Just FYI as you asked about storing flowers - I think they're pretty enough to show off. Jars are from Walmart...they have a couple of different sizes. The spice rack is from TJ Maxx, and the lucite drawers from Target or Lowes. Pails from dollar bin at Target of course.
I had to move a 14x16 packed room into a 5x6 space...it was challenging as I never get rid of scrappy supplies.

And, I don't have too much trouble, except that they are on high shelves in my scrappy space (in laundry room--the wall opposite the washer and dryer, lol). And, I get really lazy about getting them down to look through. Good luck finding a different method! And, let use know what you decide. I might try something new with mine!Art_Teacher wrote:to start sorting and storing my unthemed embellies in my stash by color, so I can use them more. What do you do? Also, my themed embellies definitely need sorted and combined. Right now I have things sorted in clear, plastic shoeboxes by type of embellishment and it is driving me crazy trying to find what I have!
I do the same thing...love me some plastic shoe boxes...LOL system works pretty well for me but always up for new ideas
I sort my stuff by type of embellishment. I have brads/bling/buttons together in one drawer, "flowers" in another. I keep spray inks together, washi in a separate drawer container on my desk, ribbons all together, etc. it works for me as I don't have a ton of storage space to be sorting by theme/topic, and this way, I can dig for something and see all the different options together and sometimes I find something else I want ot use also.

I have four CM binders full of stickers, about 10 shoeboxes full of various embellies, a spice rack full of buttons, jars and jars of flowers, 4 dowel rods full of ribbons, and a ton of miscellaneous boxes of embellishments....It is organized, but not. I can't find anything! Grr.....
i think think I am right there with you, I have a nice big scrap room, 8 totes full of paper,..I have the old 12 x 12 plastic folders that hold stickers and dies wedding, baby, summer, christmas
etc .. I have itso bins from target that hold the Jolees or packaged themed , and the cropper hopper cart with drawers for bling, tags, words, borders, ...and just bought the iris scrapbooking cart with plastic bins... And I still can't find anything...!!! Next project is to reevaluate how I organize things, although for the most part this works, but would like to have all themed together sticker, die, paper, or package...I think ?? It's all so confusing ....!!!!

I sort my flowers by color, solid cardstock by color and patterned paper and embellishments by theme.
Sort of how I do it too - but my NEW patterned paper (12 mos or less) are all by manufacturers basically (except those that I don't have a 12x12 'envelope' for, those are all put in a hanging folder together but still grouped by manuf)... and most embellies by type (except: Christmas, Disney, Halloween, School, Military/Indep Day/etc, Heritage which are all kept in separate 12x12 document boxes)butterfly843 wrote:I sort my flowers by color, solid cardstock by color and patterned paper and embellishments by theme.

I have a new plan, when I get an order from ACOT, I will keep all the matching CS and embellies together with the PP in one large plastic storage bag (like the one our stuff is shipped in; our lss also sells empty bags for 50 cents). Sometimes I have to look up the products again online to see exactly which CS goes with which PP and embellies.
My stock is sorted and stored on open shelves of the stackable white cubes. CS is sorted by color in plastic paper holders that fits on the shelves. I recently reorganized and put all the themed PP in separate plastic paper holders on the shelves, sorted by seasons/holidays, baby/boy/girl, school/college, family/heritage, etc. The drawers in the cubes hold lots of the chipboard, more punches, stamps and other embellies.
I love the clear plastic divided trays for buttons, brads, and eyelets. I have two embellishments cases for lots of the smaller stuff which keeps them portable, too. I found a desktop organizer at JoAnns to hold my 4x4 and 4x8 QK dies and other taller embellies.

I'm working on getting the white stackable units...I have four that I have turned into my desk (my space is 5'x 6' and that includes my Expedit so my desk is very small). I would like to have at least 6 more. But I keep changing my mind on which ones I want. I got one of the units with the large hanging file folder drawer - got it home, put it together, and then found that I have absolutely no use for it as I don't remember that there's paper in that drawer. I have 7 Target Itso bins for my paper and that's the first place I turn... all that paper in the stackable has been forgotten. So all the new units I add will probably be 2 or 3 drawer units. I love that they have the dividers in the 2-drawer units.blfonty wrote:I have a new plan, when I get an order from ACOT, I will keep all the matching CS and embellies together with the PP in one large plastic storage bag (like the one our stuff is shipped in; our lss also sells empty bags for 50 cents).
