Re: WITH PICS! UPDATED! Vacation in 5...4....3...2 hours!
While I have been on vacation I've been busy doing a few things around here that I just felt I needed to do.

1.) I added a new post for the mail box. Before it was a metal post and every time the snow plow would come through, it'd knock the mailbox right off the top of it.  I wanted something a little more permanent looking.  I added day lilies around the base of it (ditch lilies, my mom has a ton of them). Thursday night.

2.) I started digging the pond gardens.  The new house used to be farm land and has really heavy, black rich soil.  It's heavy and very hard to work with, but the plants love it.  There were no gardens around the house at all.  They did have some stone in the front with a few plants stuck in every now and then (they had hosta in a stone bed that was in direct sunlight.).  That needed to be corrected, so I did.

Here is the in progress picture of the left side of the garden:

I have not decided if I wanted to add mulch to the gardens or not.  I am leaning more to add the mulch.  I have added "vodoo" sedum ground cover, poker plants, yellow siberian iris, tiger lilies (three colors) an orange spider lily, silver mound, razzle dazzle sedum and summertime sedum as well.  I have a LOT more plants on order - so this bed is complete for now:

The pond is going to be in the center of everything (see tot he right?  that is going to be dug out (4' in the front and a 2' "shelf" in the back)

Here is the "stream" garden:

I still have a lot to do, the center that is mounded up is going to be hallowed out and become the stream - I am going to add stepables on the hills to fill in along with more sedum.  Like I said, I have a lot more plants on order through springhill and brecks etc...I'll have it filled in no time.

This is the larger project that I've been doing while I've been on vacation.  It's nice to be able to focus on the projects and get them done and not feel rushed.

Here are some other pics from around my house:

Image
day lily "MacIntosh" - the new lily bed in the back of the house.

Image
I forget the name of this Hydrangea - but it's blooms are about as large as a bowling ball.  They're HUGE.

Image
New this year, hydrangea "annabelle" White blooms about as big as a bowling ball as well.  Makes wonderful cut flowers for the house.

Image
Wish I knew the name of this lily.  It puts on a huge display.

Image
Yellow Star Gazer - I LOVE my lilies :)

These are the last two I'll leave - seems I have a lot of yellow, but I promise, I have a TON of other colors.  Seems like the yellow bloomed earlier this year.

ok, I lied.  One more - this is Strawberries and Cream day lily.

I have a TON more pics on my facebook page - PM me if you'd like to be added to my facebook account

Coming along nicely! Love those flower pics. My dd just put in a flower bed for me and thankfully, my dh is watering it. I love admiring the flowers and plants but am not a good caretaker. I'll have to admire yours now!

Amazing flowers & garden, Clint!  You have such an amazing talent & a green thumb.  I love "looking" at the flowers I just can't seem to ever get them to grow.  Nor do I have lots of time to dedicate to them.  Can't wait to see pics of the finished gardens.

Thanks everyone for the positive words.  I just received the last piece of the pond garden part today.I was really debating about getting this or not...I think now that it's perfect for the garden....

I NEVER wear shows in my garden, ever!  So this is just perfect, isn't it?

Now to start getting the pond parts in.....

Your flower pics are beautiful, and I'm sure those new flower beds with the pond & stream will be gorgeous as well.  I'm not much of a gardener myself, kill everything in sight, lol.  My DH is the gardener here, but he sticks to vegetables and fruits.

Re: UPDATED W/ PICS! Vacation in 5...4....3...2 hours!
My grandparents really showed me how to garden.  They had a huge garden - we grew corn, peas etc....I remember going on a weekend and spending the whole weekend there harvesting, canning and putting up a lot of vegetables and fruits that we would eat through the winter time.  Gram always had fruits for pies etc...I miss those old days.  Was so much easier and way more fun back then.  We'd run through the rows of corn (Peaches & Cream) play tag etc....I miss those old days! Image
