did you try out those metallic ones? Did they turn out ? Mine were terrible ! They never really melted. I think I will try some of the regular pony beads and see if they do better. The smell wasn't too bad.

Susan I did not try metallic but I did try the opaque pony beads and they turned out really pretty. The only thing about those were I could only find the larger ones in opaque. But I found if I take them out of the oven earlier they came out to be about the same size  a larger enamel dot. I will try and post a pick of the opaque ones later.

Here are the opaque beads. I used sheets of wacky dots for storing and adhering to my projects.

Having worked in an environmental lab I would definitely NOT DO THIS IN THE HOME!!!  Very bad fumes!!!  I am though very interested in trying it in a toaster oven that is to only be used to do this and doing it outside.  Remember along with fumes is residue in your oven.  So clean the oven!!!!

Re: Make your own enamel dots! Tutorial
just a lil story regarding melting plastic...hehe
last year I accidently melted one (well the handle) of those fancy ginsu type big knives in the oven.....(still don't know what it was doing in the oven)
and despite cleaning my oven etc....you can still smell it if I cook above 350 degrees.........GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR  it will haunt me forever I guess

These are mine....I always save the heavier backings from embellishments as you never know how they will come in handy!

Great idea!  And again, these are so pretty! Tho now I'm scared to try to make my own since others have commented that the smell would stay in the oven and the residue too.  Any experience with that? These are just so pretty, I'd love to have lots of these to put on my layouts!

My oven is fine. No oder left in it. These had very little oder to begin with. Just leave the oven door open while the oven cools down and you should be fine.

Same here. I opened a few windows, turned on the fan over the stove and left the door open as it was cooling down. There was hardly any smell to begin with, I was surprised. My hubby came home about 15 min after I finished and he couldn't smell anything. The way I Iooked at it, is that if you used an oven cleaner, it couldn't be any worse.

Re: Make your own enamel dots! Tutorial
I bought some f the perler beads and tried them. The pony beads are 100 percent better. Perler beads are pretty when melted but stuck to the parchment paper and when pulled off they had a little plastic rim on them and I do not like that.
