Not saying my opinion is yours but all of this banning of guns b.s. is only going to raise murder and crime rates in this country. I was not raised with guns but I am married to a man who hunts and is law abiding. I also believe we as LAW ABIDING citizens have a right to protect ourselves and innocent others in their best interest (robberies, rape, etc) if we are able to do so. If we are stripped of our right to arm ourselves with a country so overpopulated, do you really think there is enough police and military manpower to protect everyone? I think not. If vicious crimes are committed upon the general public our Gov't doesn't have the balls to prosecute the evil doers well enough to curb others from doing it. IE - a slap on the wrist... so to speak for their crimes.
Our tyrant err I mean President needs to be put in his place. That place is NO WHERE near the White House. We will soon be one Nation divided under God, that is if anyone even dares mention HIS name. We will most definitely be headed for another civil war.
I am not a Dem or a Rep, but I sure as heck am not a Socialist.

You got that right Kari!
I have grown up around guns with nearly everyone in my family being hunters. My grandparents had shot guns and rifles and taught all of us kids how to use them appropriately. My dad has a rifle and my DH has a rifle, shot gun and a pistol. Everybody in my family is a member of the NRA. We were raised to respect guns.
I've always believed guns do not kill people, but people kill people.

I am with you too. My DH and DD#2 are hunters. My father was a hunter. I have hunted. Many others in my family are/were hunters. The only problem I have with guns is why would a person have a need to own an assault rifle or military issued type fire arms. I don't think guns should be banned, but maybe be a little more strict as to what type of firearm a person can own.
Mildred - Mom to 2 girls and a husband (I tell people that I am a single mom of 3. Ages 59, 37 and 31) lol. And a proud Grandma to Orahn (7) Sawyer (5) and Mazie (3).
I totally agree with all of you ladies. I too have been around guns all of my life. Guns don't pull the trigger- people do. If a person wants to do harm to someone, they will find a way.

yep gun owners and hunters abound in this family too. But unfortunately we elected him by due Democratic process and the gun law is also being handled by the same process. All we do is hope and pray that there are enough of us to keep them from doing what they want.

I believe that evil people that want to do someone harm will have guns either way, law or no law. It's the good people that want a gun for protection that will be defenseless.
I so agree with you!!!! The people who do these terrible things will get the guns no matter what! All these laws will do is make us more vulnerable then we already are. I am not a gun person, but I don't feel our right to have one should be taken away. I truly fear where this country is heading in so many ways. I am not sure what it would take to turn it all around.

I am on the same page. I am not against guns in the right context. We have lots of gun control now, does that stop the people who want to use guns to harm people from getting them??? NOPE and neither will more gun control.

There are a lot of people against folks owning assault rifles or those things that hold 30 or more bullets. I believe that owning a gun is a constitutional right, but I also believe that some people should not own them. Perhaps firmer requirements for obtaining a weapon is in order. I do not believe this is the government's fault. I guess I'm not on the right side here.

I just spent a whole Saturday to exercise my right to own and carry a hand gun. That is ridiculous enough, not to mention the boatload of money it cost me.

I'm sorry - did something I said upset you? I am not against people owning guns. I am for responsible and safe gun sales and ownership.
I feel like the government is just trying to take more and more control. They force Obamacare on us and now they may try to force us to give up our weapons. Same thing - if you really want to murder, etc. you aren't going to go obtain your gun legally. Seriously, the black market will flourish. And, yes, we have a black market for weapons in the US no matter what they try to say. This will just split the US even more. The US was so divided over the election and I do not think this is helping it. Of course, Obamacare is not going to be helping people like the government thought since so many companies are dropping their employees to part time status. Perfect example of how messed up our government is.

I don't think there is a wrong side or a right side in what you are saying. I too think that some people shouldn't own them . I think most peoples problem is the way the government is going about it. Obama said there are parts of this gun debate that he can use executive order to put into effect and I think that is BS. Seriously, he has been waiting for his 2nd term to start putting these regulations into effect. Sandy Hook just provided him the ammunition (pardon the pun) to do it. The government should focus on mental health in this country and WHY these maniacs are doing this. They will do it no matter what. I come from a family of hunting and guns. We have an assault rifle. My husband has a concealed weapons permit. I took the class, just never got the permit. I will be doing that soon. Why do we have an assault rifle? Because its fun to take out to the gun club and shoot. Do we have a high capacity clip? No. Never saw a reason for it. Things are going to get very ugly over this gun control issue and it frightens me what the government has the power to do.

We viewed statistics in our conceal/carry class - the leading causes of death in the US. #1? The automobile. Everyone hand over your keys.

I was thinking of this when it was on the news again this morning. If people want assault guns they're going to get them just like drugs. I grew up with a gun in the house, I never touched it but it was there. Then my DH was a police officer and had many guns, assault, 9mm with clips that held 20-25 bullets, M-16, 45 Desert Eagle ... he doesn't hunt. I don't know why he had them. I can shoot, he taught me, but I don't have a gun now.
I don't agree with the "ban" or control or whatever, but I do see the point.

I'm not a gun owner but I agree. I think people want to point a finger at something and in this case it's the guns. I think if people wanted to get a gun with a ban in place they would just do it illegally. Prohibition didn't work...it created crime. I think the same thing would happen.

Most definetly. I mean, someone can harm/kill somebody with their own bare hands. They don't necessarily need a gun.
