The {crazy} things men get excited about!
Admittedly, I have never had a "handy" man in my life, even when I was married the first time. I remember Brandy having problems with a water leak in her house that became more involved and required more extensive work than originally anticipated, but I also remember thinking "at least you have someone to do that stuff...I'd be paying someone because I don't have a clue how!"

Well, DH loves doing home repairs. The toilet in our main bathroom has never flushed well, clogs up very easily. He vowed he was going to fix it...well, today, he replaced the whole thing! What he had expected to be an hour long project turned into half a day and an extra trip to Home Depot because it turns out the flange was originally set up for the toilet facing a different way, so nothing was really adhered properly so he had repair work to do before he could even install the new toilet. Then he bought one with 2 flush modes....the water saver for liquids only and a more powerful flush for solid waste. And a $35 toilet seat! He made sure buy an elongated toilet bowl (he says that way the boy parts don't touch the toilet seat when boys sit down to do their business...something I'd never thought about) and a "No-Slam" seat! I knew they had no-slam cabinets and drawers for kitchen, but I never knew they had them for toilet seats! He was so excited to show off "his" new toilet! lol

Geez...the things that men get excited about! lol And now I don't have to worry about paying someone to do stuff, cuz I sleep with the man who can! lol

Re: The {crazy} things men get excited about!
BF can totally fix toilets (his parents have HIM do it whenever theirs breaks) and other things, I just wish we were ALLOWED to do things like that. Both of ours are pretty bad at flushing (one clogs almost EVERY TIME), but getting maintenance to fix anything is like pulling teeth. I WILL give them credit for actually hiring a plumber to fix our continuously leaking faucet, but it took an unnecessarily long time to do it, and I have a feeling it was only done because they knew they had a city building inspection coming up. Grrrrrrr....

At this point, I'd get excited about new toilets, too. ;)

I didn't know there were "no slam" seats. I need an auto flush and auto seat-putterdowner on mine! I have an electrician for a hubby and it has been a blessing indeed. He and my sons together can tackle many of our needs and I can't imagine how I would do without them with the skills they have.

Yes, Nancy, there is a Santa Claus. Your dh. Keep him. My dh is a keeper, too. He built out house without a lot of help. He hired men to do the foundation blocks and another crew to put on the roof, but they screwed it up and he had to redo it.But he did everything inbetween with no help at all.

Agreed! It's nice to have AJ around for that stuff as well. He fixes cars, things like when the lawn mower breaks down, or handles when we have a leak or a fan needs to go in. haha! I would prob be calling my dad to help with stuff like that if he wasn't here and good with that stuff. :D haha!

Oh you should go to the hard ware store with my DH...I swear he gets excited about lumber (i was going to say wood..but that was just going to lead to other comments :winkb: :winkb:) I swear i saw him stroking a piece of lumber the one day and he looks at me and says isn't this nice....I wasn't sure how to respond..was a little jealous.

He also filled a cart with a bunch of plumbing supplies one time ( talking about a bunch of little connectors and crap) and then left to get something else and i found myself apologizing to the cashier because of all the crap in the cart.

Funny thing is when we redid the bathroom i insisted that I wanted a geriatric toilet (you know the ones that are chair height) because i didn't want to feel like i was sitting on the floor...we had a couple arguments on that topic...I won though.... :-D

Well enjoy the new potty and the handy man! (thehhhheee just wondering how you paid him...sorry couldn't help myself.)

Ah....but the joys of learning / trying things for yourself....lead to such an accomplishing feeling as well! (Hey, I have had to learn how to fix a drain that started leaking when my bathroom vanity was replaced. I had a friend help as I could not do this all myself.
But yay on the new toilet! :winkb:

I am pretty lucky too, my dh can fix just about anything. However when it comes to cars he always has to get help. He isn't one to hire out for anything!

Wow Nancy, that's great! My DH is a jack of all trades. The other day at the local hardware store we were picking up some stuff for a kitchen reno we are doing for family and it took us like a half hour to pick out stupid valves! Love the no slam lid.

Actually, I believe they have those - some sort of sensor like on touchless faucets.... That would be so nice!!

Totally get you. I have a "handy hubby" and he gets all excited about drill bits and air compressors.
But mine also has a soft side.

We went to Home Depot yesterday to get a piece of paneling to replace a broken one in the bathroom and he bought 3 new house plants since he other ones died.

I cannot keep anything that doesn't bark alive, so no house plants for me.

You ladies really need to scrapbook these comments - and photos of your "excited" men. My (ex) husband was only good with ONE tool, actually not even good with that - and it goes back to the lumber comment.

ok that made me snort.

I actually have a whole scrapbook dedicated to all the reno's we have done in the house. I have pictures from the day we got the keys. You wouldn't believe how handy that ends up being. I take pictures of wiring, bare studs (not that kind girls..calm down :winkb: :winkb: :winkb:)....and have used it as reference when need be. ( i actually pulled it out on the last project to prove where there was wiring and that sort of stuff). plus it's fun to see what we have accomplished (other then having meltdowns during every project).

i don't know how to post/stitch layouts together so i can't show them. Another thing is the first couple pages of my book are extremely plain..so not only has the house changed but my scrap style has evolved.

However i still get the "dummy" end of the tape measure. :)

LMAO!!! DH is actually quite good with that one as well!

I DO have pictures...I made him post by the toilet and demonstrate the button. I tried to get his picture when he was sitting on it backward without the tank on the back making the silicone seal set, bue he refused. He still isn't used to the ever present camera! lol
