Jeanelle, good for you for knowing you had to get out of a hurtful relationship. I divorced my exhusband 9 years ago, took me two years to finally get divorced. He was very mentally abusive, took me a long time to finally leave him, but I realized that for my boys sake I had to leave. He only saw them about 3 times (supervised visits) before he decided that if you couldn't have it his way he didn't want to see them. His loss. I too went through the "way" part, I never put him down but also never lied to them. Later through recent years, I've learned that both of them saw and heard a lot more than I ever thought they had. He has recently tried to contact all three of us through facebook. We have all declined the invitation from him. The boys did without me knowing it, until a few days ago. I am sad for him that he missed so much and now is missing out on a beautiful granddaughter, but it was his choice when he decided to treat us the way he did.


I've since remarried to a wonderful guy that loves both my boys as his own and is totally in love with his new grandbaby.



So hang in there, it will be rough of a while, but it will be worth it. The girls will hurt for a while as well, but they too will make up there own decision about their dad. My boys were 7 and 9 when we left, so they were long as well.

Jeanelle I am so happy to hear that your divorce is finalized. There will be rough spots but you SO did the RIGHT thing and you and your children will be OK. It takes a lot more courage to leave an abusive relationship and you showed a great strength in doing that. My thoughts are always with you and your kids. Keep your head up and go forward with a positive outlook because you do DESERVE to be loved by someone that will treasure you. {{{Hugs to you and the kids}}}

Nancy had some great words! My ex made it very clear he wanted nothing to do with his children and took off and never looked back - his whereabouts are unknown...yada yadda I could go on...but my kids are doing fantastic; in fact I think much better than if he had stayed around! Sure it was hard at first but we are all doing do well and even though I never will be able to comfort my kids with an answer as to why he did what he did we all learned to accept that his decision was his decision and nothing we did differently would have changed the outcome...just pure selfishness and a true narcissist.


You and your family will thrive and the lesson you are teaching your kids will prove positive as they will see how important it is to love who they are and to make good decisions for themselves. You will give them a new found confidence as they will witness you doing it and when things may not go well for them as is does in life they will know they too can do it and get through it and be better for it.
