Is that a lot of work? Wow! It looks so good. Almonds is one of my fav flavors, too.gine wrote:1grandma wrote:How do you get all the layers? It is beautiful!gine wrote:I baked Two cakes tonight. They are both ordered for a party Saturday
It is a traditional Norwegian cake "Kransekake'' made from almonds,
I will assemble them Saturday, when they are done they look like this one that I made for HRM crownpricess Mette Marit's visit to Florida
Thanks =)
all the rings are baked separately in forms (!8) The almonds have to be grinded by hand and the dough rolled out before baked in the forms
I made 17 of them during November-December last year and 3 so far this year LOL

It is a Duncan Heinz butter yellow cake. Two boxes because we are having a party for my ds#1 tonight. And I am so excited! When was the last time you made a cake? What kind? Was it a box cake or a scratch cake or some other kind of cake?

Just about three weeks ago....it was a 6 layer checkerboard cake. Alternating white, and chocolate with a white chocolate ganashe frosting and strawberry filling. It was really good. Made from scratch - I think I have pictures of the one I did for my moms birthday last year...only thing is, the cake is SO huge - if you want a three layer you have to make 6 cakes etc...I will see if I can find pics from it. I think I have some....

I with you on the icing thing. I do not like canned icing. I think it is because it taste slightly off to me due to the preservatives used. Peanut butter cup cheesecake. To die for!javalove wrote:I made individual heart-shaped red velvet cakes with homemade buttercream icing for Valentine's Day. I can eat homemade icing by the cup straight out of the bowl, but I can't stomach the canned stuff...don't know why. Anyway, last year at Target I bought six heart-shaped springform pans that are perfect for making pretty much any dessert in the shape of a heart.
Tomorrow I'm making peanut butter cup cheesecake. It's really yummy but takes forever, so my kids only get it about twice a year. Seems like I'm always baking something, though. I like cooking almost as much as I like scrapping!
Clint, you made this from scratch??!!! OMG! It is beautiful! I bet you really love your mom!cbremer80 wrote:cbremer80 wrote:1grandma wrote:My ds#2 just gave me a Kitchen Aid mixer! You are blessed to have such a great mom and she is blessed to have you for a son.cbremer80 wrote:Yes, this was made scratch - the second cake wasn't that was a box mix, but the pink cake I did from scratch. The yellow cake was confetti - I didn't have time to mess with that, so I just got one from the store I normally do everything from scratch though. yes, my mom does love me to pieces and I love her to pieces too. Believe me, I wouldn't go through all this trouble for someone that didn't deserve it.
