Ghost Story
So, I live in an old, old house - it's 108 years old. Sometimes there are things that happen that are odd and I try not to think about them. There is a haunted tour that goes by our house only because they are walking from one point to another, not because we specifically are on the tour. However, one house on the tour and our house had the same owner - a woman. She was probably the only female property owner in the city at the turn of the century (the 1900 century). She sold the house to live with her husband who was a banker, one of the richest men in the city, and a gambling man. He lost all of his money and much of their property. She left him but they didn't divorce and no one is certain where she ended up living after that. She never moved back home. The hauntings in the other house are all related to her in the house. In our house, the front door randomly opens so we try to keep it locked.

And, this morning I went downstairs to vacuum. The kids were playing and I thought I saw one of them run into the living room. The sun was shining through the front door and I caught a glimpse of the sunlight on pajamas as they went from the staircase into the sitting room. I waited a second but didn't hear the kids in the room so I went to look and no one was there, not even the dogs.

Maybe we should be added to the tour after all.

Re: Ghost Story
I actually do believe in an afterlife and that ghosts and spirits are among us. I remember one night I woke up out of a DEAD SLEEP and sat straight up in bed. Romy was still asleep and Julia was a newborn and sleeping in the bassinet next to me.

I had this intense and overwhelming feeling that someone was standing near the bedroom door at the foot of our bed. I didn't even look around the room; I looked directly to that spot. Strangely, I wasn't afraid. I was comforted and fell back asleep.

That's not the only "encounter" I've had with a "ghost". I was onboard the Queen Mary for our unit's ball and was getting ready. My hairbrush was on the counter next to the sink. It wasn't near the edge or anything. I looked at it and watched it get picked up and thrown onto the floor. Turns out, the cabin I was in is on the haunted tour.

Re: Ghost Story
We live in a house that was built in 2004 so it's new, but the land in this area once belonged to Indians. Some remains were actually dug up on the other end of town as a church was building. There have been a few "odd" things that happen. I have a hanging in my bathroom with strands of shells that clatter against the wall even when there's no breeze of any kind. Stuff has fallen off shelves. My son heard a scratching sound going across his wall one night. There are other instances but you get the idea. I'd love to hear other stories!

Re: Ghost Story
My house is 84 years old. We are the 2nd owners of the house, so only 1 family lived in it before we did. The woman who used to live here died rather young and her husband lived here until he was moved to a nursing home or hospice. He has since passed away.

I have lived in this house my entire life. When I was younger I used to tell my parents that the woman would walk around in the attic at night and I couldn't sleep. We hear doors open and close all the time and footsteps but they pretty much leave us alone. I think they know that we love this house as much as they did and we take care of it so I think they are happy ghosts.
