How much do you spend for groceries& how many you shop for?
Groceries are getting so high. I need to start clippng coupons again. For a while I was shopping with coupons almost but not near as bad as extreme coupon. I dont believe in clearing shelves only get what I have room for and stock up on things I use often. so I did so well that I really didnt have to shop for much other than meat, veggies and milk/bread eggs.

Just went shopping today with store coupons for family of 4 I spent a whopping 347.00 I will have to go buy milk/eggs and lil things I run out of..so average for a month can end up being 450.00 for family of 4..

what are your averages.. I know groceries are higher on certain things depending where you live. People in Montana pay way more for groceries than we do..

Re: How much do you spend for groceries& how many you shop for?
I don't actually know how much we spend. I go a couple times a week so it's kinda hard to keep track of after a while. I know it was getting way out of hand for our family of 4, so that's why I started couponing. I also don't go crazy and clear shelves, but I do stock up when things are on sale. It will help in the long run. My biggest problem is planning menus around the things in my pantry and freezer...I just can't seem to get it all together. I don't have any ideas and it often feels like I'm just cooking the same thing over and over. I need to spend some time looking up easy recipes using these items. So I really didn't answer your questions but it's a lot.

Re: How much do you spend for groceries& how many you shop for?
I spend about $150 every two weeks for a family of 4 plus my fil eats here often. I stock up with coupons on basics like cereal, cheese, crackers etc. Meat we tend to buy at Sams Club once a month and freeze.

Our big expense is milk and fresh produce. Milk is about $3.50 a gallon and we go thru 2-3 a week. I try to only buy the produce that is in season so to save a little money.

We don't do much namebrand unless it's on sale and there are coupons for it. I have a large pantry and can store lots so it's not unusual to not buy cereal for months at a time as we have 25 boxes of it right now.
I keep track of prices and know when something is a good deal and I'll stock up on it. My best suggestion is to use the coupon websites like krazycouponlady.com and others to help match the coupons to the sales. Also - they will mention when the price is good for stocking up. I only buy what we will use or we can donate to the local pantry.

I also get at least two copies of the inserts each week, sometimes 3 if the coupons are really good.

i know, isn't it insane?! we're a family of 6 voracious eaters and yes, i admit i LOVE to cook,
so there's extras to buy to get creative... i mean, i've already gone 3x to the market in just
2 weeks -- well, there's the massive groceries, then there's the one for organic stuff, and a
separate store again for specific ingredients/ethnic/local items... lol, it's a freakin' mission :-D

the total amount? uhh, a LOT (sigh) but i do pack lunches for dh, so at least, i save $ there!

We generally spend $40 a week on groceries/household items (toilet paper, paper towels, shampoo, etc...) for 2 people and a kitty. Sometimes it's more, sometimes (like now) it's less... I couldn't live without fresh veggies and fruit, so that's a big hunk of the budget...

There's 2 of us (and 2 cats haha!) and we spend about $150 - 175 every two weeks. We buy food as for what we need that week, and that's pretty much it. And of course the toiletries and laundry and cleaning stuff are included in there, but I'm hoping to be able to start saving a bit more on those since I just found out that the London Drugs here will let me combine coupons. Yeah! The only place in the whole city that will! :-D

FOr a family of 6 my budget is $500 for a month. That is food, toiletries, cleaning supplies, papergoods, anything consumable really. It is hard sometimes, but I try really hard to stick to that.

We are 3 and we spend about $600 a month on groceries, but groceries are more expensive in Denmark than they are in the US. The food prices have gone up about 25% the last 3 years :?

Re: How much do you spend for groceries& how many you shop for?
My grocery bill has gone through the roof because my husband has Celiac disease and the food that I have to buy is sometimes double and triple compared to regular foods. I also have to get new pots and utensils to cook to avoid cross contamination. I figured that my bill this month will be over $600.00. I'm hoping it will taper off next month. We are only 2 people in the house, but my grandchildren are here often and they sure can eat. I am actually buying for 5 people.

I spend $600-$700 per month on groceries...But...I also live in northern Manitoba where prices are higher. I am feeding a family of 4 plus a dog. My "tween" and teenager are like bottomless pits that can't fill up! I find when I make a weekly or monthly menu, the cost is down about $50 per week...it's just doing that menu!

Re: How much do you spend for groceries& how many you shop for?
It's starting to be really noticeable how much prices have gone up. We're lucky that there are about ten grocery stores in a ten mile radius of our house so there is lots of competition. I shop for stapes twice a month and spend about $80 and then during the week buy meet and produce fresh. So I estimate we spend about $300 a month on groceries for a family of four. When my husband went back to school, we worked on simplifying our grocery list since we were finding we weren't using a lot of the stuff we bought. Now that he's working again, we stick to that list for the ease of it and it's made life so much easier!
