-Liz- wrote:There are lots of awesome free fonts out there available for download too- I LOVE going to http://www.abstractfonts.com and dafont.com to load up on some good ones :)

*and how to install (depending on your Operating System) this could be easy as one two three :) First download and extract all the fonts you are wanting to do an install on- and put them all into one folder (JUST the unzipped font file)
Once you have done that- select all the fonts within the folder and either (like i said depending)
*Right click and hit install (it will prompt a new window for you)
*OR right click and copy all the fonts, go to the start menu- >Computer -> OS (your C drive) -> Windows -> Fonts
And paste your fonts into that folder :)

Okey dokey - I went to http://www.abstractfonts.com and downloaded a bunch of fonts. I put them into a folder and unzipped them all. When I right-clicked nothing happened, so I copied and pasted into my Windows Font folder.

BUT - it said they were (not sure of the exact terminology) not appropriate font files and none of them copied.

I'm a font failure! :(

Try this then- Like I said it varies with operating systems and some work a bit differently.
Go to your font folder (from windows)- and at the top it there should be an edit/install option. If you don't see it- Right click in the blank area around your listed fonts and you should see a little box pop up. The bottom of that box should list "install new font" Either or will open a little pop up window where you can locate your new folder of downloaded fonts and select and install them that way.

Hey ScrapEgypt! Here's another font site that I love. They have some free ones and some you have to pay for, but they aren't pricey.

you know I can't wait for this Liz!! I'm so excited. :D :D :D
I think it'd be really cool to start off with beginner and intermediate levels, kwim? So right off the bat, we choose our comfort zone and then your challenge could be simpler for the beginners and add some more steps for the intermediate. It would be cool to see, a few weeks down the road, how many beginners move themselves up to the intermediate!
What I enjoyed the best about those crop speed scraps was that all the elements you required us to use, were most likely pretty easy to find all in one kit. With both layouts I did over the weekend, I only had to dig from two kits for each. You didn't make us dig around in 18 different kits to complete a layout. ...although there is an advanced challenge idea for ya ;)

Re: Ideas purrity please :)
Oh, I thought of an idea today for a topic - Effective Clustering. There are times when I try to do clustering and I like it enough and sometimes it just doesn't look good, kwim? So maybe tips, ideas and examples of clustering that really works well?

Another idea is the photos that people blend into the paper (see, I don't even know what the name for it is ;) ). I've done this some and I like how it turns out, but I just know the basics of it and I bet there are some that would like to know how to do this.

Another one could be how to get your layout to look just like a paper one (like how to use shadows correctly, other tips that help it look 3D, the kind of stuff where people don't know that it's digital when they first look at it).

If I think of more, I'll post back here. :-D

Cielle.....did you get the font thing to work?if you have windows thi9s is straight form the windows site :)
To install a font, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. Type the following command, and then click OK:

    %windir%\fonts

  3. On the File menu, click Install New Font.
  4. In the Drives box, click the drive that contains the font that you want to add.

Note The floppy disk drive is typically drive A or drive B. The CD drive is typically drive D.

  5. In the Folders box, click the folder that contains the font that you want to add, and then click OK.
  6. In the List of fonts box, click the font that you want to add. To select more than one font at a time, press and hold the CTRL key while you select each font.
  7. Click to select the Copy Fonts To Fonts Folder check box. The new font is saved in the Windows\Fonts folder.
  8. Click OK.
Note Windows supports TrueType fonts or fonts that are designed especially for Windows which can be purchased separately. Some programs also include special fonts that are installed as part of the program installation. Additionally, TrueType or special Windows fonts are frequently included with printers. Follow the directions that are included with these products to install these fonts.

also here is another great free font site....

Mildred - Mom to 2 girls and a husband (I tell people that I am a single mom of 3. Ages 59, 37 and 31) lol. And a proud Grandma to Orahn (7) Sawyer (5) and Mazie (3).

Re: Ideas purrity please :)
Right now all I want to know is how to look at the laptop screen for more than 10 minutes without feeling nauseous. :( I don't know why this is bothering me, I was fine for months but it's got to be related to my IBS which is similar to migraines in that sometimes I'm very sensitive to different stimuli, especially light. If I could be on the laptop 10 pm would be perfect, but my desktop is upstairs (& prob. too old/slow to install GIMP on it) so it'll depend on what shows are on. ;) Great idea though!!

On the blending issue, I find this ironic but I got compliments for the 'great job' I did on my very 1st pages, but w/my old software (Microsoft Picture It, which is on the desktop) there's basically a "fade edges" feature so it's a piece of cake! (Drop shadows are another story, lol.) Def. different w/GIMP though.
