This kid got a A+ for this paper
My daughter sent this to me. I love it, it is awesome and so true!

BY A 15 yr. OLD SCHOOL KID
who got an A+ for this entry
TOTALLY AWESOME)!

Since the Pledge of Allegiance
And
The Lord's Prayer
Are not allowed in most
Public schools anymore
Because the word 'God' is mentioned.....
A kid in Arizonawrote the attached
NEW School prayer:
"New Pledge of Allegiance"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.
If scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now.
Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That's no offense; it's a freedom scene..
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.
For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all..
In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.
We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks...
They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.
We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.
It's 'inappropriate' to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such 'judgments' do not belong..
We can get our condoms and birth controls, Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles..
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,No word of God must reach this crowd.
It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!
Amen
If you aren't ashamed to do this, Please pass this on..
Jesus said, 'If you are ashamed of me, I will be ashamed of you before my Father.'
We have to forgive! If we don't forgive, we'll get left behind! janet rose
Very nice poem. What a wonderful country we have where the very vocal minority can be heard and can effect rules, policy and laws. And what a wonderful privilege we have to be able to vote out the rule makers that we disagree with. I think we all want a fair balance.... we'll get there. Thanks for sharing the poem. :)
And, there are so many inaccuracies in this poem or prayer or whatever it's being called as it's sent around this time. I have a hard time finding anything true in it.
oh good you found it! I knew it had to be on snopes. I looked but couldn't find it, guess I was looking under the wrong thing.
and for the record, I don't think there are any laws that say that an individual kid can't pray in school. The laws say that the school can't force all the kids to do it.
Meg, after doing a bit of research myself on this, you are correct. The laws state that a public school or district cannot force one to pray or NOT to pray. The individual choice is still there. In fact, there are several public high school in my area that have an after school bible club. It's considered a club. That sure doesn't sound like what this poem implies; that prayer at school is illegal.
Also, at the high schools in our district (as well as every other public school) crazy appearances ("freaks with piercings...") is unacceptable and the child will be sent home. Sex ed is taught here and it does use the "abstinence is best" approach. Doesn't sound all sinful and damning to me.
This poem has been recited, re-written, tweaked, and taken credit for my so many different people that it has lost all credibility.
Glad that the teacher was smart enough to reward the work with an A+. It kills me every time my son needs to do a current event report or something for school and I suggest something that interests him or that we believe in or know something about and he says...I can't do that for school "It's politically incorrect and won't be allowed".
Re: This kid got a A+ for this paper
I guess I'm one of the naysayers as well. Last time I checked neither guns nor the bible have been outlawed. If guns are against the law, why is the writer mentioning the possibility of being shot at the end of the "poem"? Also, profanity is NOT allowed in any of our schools and who cares if someone's hair is green anyway? What does that have to do with anything? The pledge is still said every morning in our schools. I just think there are too many generalizations and flat out false statements in this. Just another way to get people angry and riled up: dividing our nation even further. :greenconfused:
Re: This kid got a A+ for this paper
Where I grew up, there was a moment of silence after the pledge for personal prayer or reflection. If you chose to pray or not to say the word "God" within the pledge that was your own personal decision and nobody bothered you about it.
