Yikes, senior pics are expensive!!
Image Image

I like the way they came out, but I won't go with the company the school recommended next time. It was a small fortune. I found a few people who have nice cameras and could have done just as good a job. I'm sure there are a few people here that dabble in photography that could have shot these. She is my oldest so I'm learning...when my 2 younger children get their pics done, I will be better prepared and will do my homework.

they look great. but i agree, they are a small fortune! I had a friend that actually took her nieces senior pictures with a regular digital camera and they turned out great.

Depending on the ages of your other kids, do you have time to take a photography class? I think that would be lots of fun!

OMG, see this is why I come here...I have 4 years before my son is a senior and 7 years for my other daughter. I was just saying I needed a goal for the future...maybe this will be it. You rock...thanks for the idea. If you hear sobbing later in the year from afar, you know it didn't work out, lol.

Very pretty pics but I agree- big rip off. I wish I had just done my first daughter's more cheaply, because then the 2nd daughter expected all the bells & whistles too. Cost me a fortune and once they graduate, no one really cares about Senior pics.

I'm sure it will work out. You've got time to practice, and you can scrap your test shots. it would be a cool journal...this is the technique i tried this is the result...i like it because, i don't like it because.

I have a picture of me in my prom dress sitting on my front porch that the next door neighbor took, and to this day it is one of my favorite pictures of myself (that isn't wrong to have a favorite picture of yourself is it??). i like it better then my senior pictures, and while he had a good camera, and liked photography it wasn't his profession.

so go for it...enjoy it!

What a pretty girl you have! These days with digital cameras, you should be able to get some great shots! Good luck with your new goal.

I took both of my kid's senior pics...no way was I paying those prices when I could take an hour and do it myself!

The shots are lovely, but I'm sure you'll be able to get some great ones too...just scout out good locations, or find a way to work your kids interest into the photo so that they're totally personal!

Great pics! Beautiful girl! So, these are senior pictures? I don't get it. My senior pic was the one in the yearbook and looked exactly like everyone elses'. No grass or any enviornment. How do you submit these pics for the yearbook or is that even their purpose? I am a senior who is confused!

Well I typically do a few indoor head shots for the year book. Some with their interest/sport/etc... inside or out. Then some outdoor type ones. The out door/interest one are typically printed in a wallet size with name and year in corner and put in with graduation announcement. Or at least this is how it is done here. :)

I took my DD's pics this year...they were poutrageous locally...one gu charges $185 sitting fee and that does not include any prints! these are some I took{ they needed some work, but looked really good once I finished them} and I just submitted the one she liked as a 3x3 image to the school...my senior picture was like everybody elses too, but the times have changed :)

Your dd is a doll! I admit, I paid for my ds and dd to have senior portraits made with local photographers. I love my son's 16 x 20 hanging on the wall nearby, and I love her portfolio we bought. Then I scanned and made her wallets for classmates and invitations! I certainly have other monetary regrets, though!!! (like her red VW Beetle she wanted so badly--kinda' fell apart!)

Re: Yikes, senior pics are expensive!!
I agree they are very expensive, especially if you go with the place the school recommends. I learned that with my first ds 3 years ago. The pictures were terrible and very expensive. We left without ordering any and had them taken again at another photographer. She did a nice job, still a little pricey but I only had to order what I wanted. I have 2 sons and they didn't even care if they were taken at all.

I know I felt the same way. I walked into the studio thinking she is going to sit in a chair with a backdrop behind her, it was another world. The studio is in a big warehouse with different rooms and a rail yard behind the building outside. You bring 2-4 outfits and do as many shots as you want. I only let her do 2 outfits which cost $80 just to walk through the door - the sitting fees...yikes. There were kids with their dogs, instruments, sports stuff and even boyfriends (which I don't get, would if you break up).

Since the company works with the schools they take them and after you select what you want they submit one shot for the yearbook and the rest goes to you. It was fun to watch but I thought I was going to fall out of my seat when I saw the prices. We waited too long and only had a week to get it in for the deadline. I'll be more prepared next time with my other kids.

To nun69 - I can't believe they charge $185 for a sitting fee in your area. I love your pictures and your daughter is so pretty. I love her clothes and the colors she picked out. I came to realize that you can get the same kind of quality from other sources. I think with all the digital equipment out there it is easier to do it yourself.

Thanks for sharing your pics :)
