Oooh! I <3 Cherry Blossoms (newbie post)
Hi Cherries!

I am new to A Cherry on Top and wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. My name is Shannon, mother to a beautiful 5 year old girl, and wife to my soul mate. I am not exactly new to scrapping, but I haven't done a single layout in just around 3 years. Yikes! I know. I was loving the world of scrapping and making cards when I loaned all of my supplies and tools to a coworker so that she could create a scrapbook for her finace's upcoming birthday. I loaded my entire scrapping collection into her car on a Friday afternoon and never saw her again. She never came back to work and I've just not had the heart until just recently to begin replacing things. I had more money than I care to admit in that collection and was heartbroken to have lost it. However, my photos are piling up and my beautiful daughter is growing leaps and bounds and I just cannot stand to put off creating layouts and books any longer. I fear that I may never complete layouts for the photos that I currently have, but I will SO enjoy trying!

I currently have ZERO supplies, so I am diving in today shopping. Maybe I'll find some of those cornucopias! Since I've been out of the loop a few years, if anyone has some suggestions of brands or great products I should take a look at, PLEASE don't hesitate to suggest. One thing I didn't have before that I am looking at now is a Cricut and would love to get thoughts from those of you that own one. Oh, and maybe some tips on where to start? I am so far behind, I have no idea where/how to begin again!

I look forward to getting to know all of you better. I'm so happy to have found this site and community and BEYOND ready to get back to scrapping!

hugs and paper,
Shannon

Welcome to ACOT!!! I have had great fun here. I am wondering...since you dn't have supplies right now....have you considered trying digital? I've been venturing there for the past couple of months, and have been enjoying it.

That was going to be my suggestion too. I keep telling DH, if I was starting from scratch today, I would do all digital instead of paper, if for no other reason than it takes up so much less space, makes no mess and you don't have to buy too much to get started (well, if you have a computer, there are lots of free stuff online to at least try out first...so really costs nothing to get started). If you need any help in digital, there are lots of talented gals here who are always willing to help (including me!). Good luck and welcome! :-D

that is awful about your supplies!! People amaze me sometimes! Sorry that happened but happy that you found us!!

I would browse through the shop (you can search by company, theme, category and color here) and see what pops out at you! Everyone has different tastes so I find that a great way to find what you might like!

Also browing through the gallery might help as well!

and again a HUGE WELCOME to the board!!!!!

Welcome to ACOT! So sorry all your supplies were basically stolen, if by the goodness of your heart. Shame on that woman.
The gals make good points about trying digital - I do both. I love love tactile creating however, and I don't feel I will ever go 100% digital. For me it comes in handy in winter, because I scrap in an unfinished, basically unheated basement - so if it gets too cold to create at my table I can sit in the warm office and create a layout digitally. Although I love the finished results, I do have to discipline myself to get the 12x12 layouts printed...I usually wait for a good sale at scrapbook pictures - every once in a while they have a sale on 12x12 prints, and for the price - you cannot create a traditional page for less $ if you tend to use embellishments.

Good luck finding cornucopias in the store! Browse and find papers that speak to your creative spirit. BoBunny Press happens to be my very favorite, with My Minds Eye and Basic Grey right up there as well. Have fun getting back into scrapping.

Oh...and since it has been a while - paper border punches have really taken hold in the past 3-4 yrs.? or so. I love them - if you have budget constraints and don't want to spend $ on the gorgeous ribbon available, border punches allow you to make your own strips that can mimic the ribbons - and very easy to coordinate. I noticed ACOT has specials on punches - and watch the deals of the week and day!

I have considered trying out Digi. It's something I'm definitely interested in learning how to do. However, I am afraid that by going 100% Digi, that I will never get my photos off of my hard drive. I really love being able to have something tangible to hold and look through with my daughter. I also have a really special relationship with my mother in law, who just has no interest in anything digital and I am looking forward to having paper sessions with her. If I could find an affordable way to bind my Digi layouts, I will most definitely be doing both. :inlove:

Thanks for the warm welcome and the suggestions!

Welcome! And can't believe that some people would pull moves like that! That's horrible! That's someones hobby! One day, she'll get karma right smack back in the face!

As for starting fresh, I too would suggest digital. It's cheaper than paper and you can use the same supplies over and over again. The only tool you need is the sofware, so Adobe photoshop or even the GIMP program which is free. There are a lot of digi ladies around here to help if needed too. :)

As for paper supplies, no idea what's in or not anymore cuz I haven't touched those supplies in a few months. haha! I pretty much only use paper stuff for cardmaking now.

Good luck with getting back into the scrapping groove!

oh, all those digi gals are getting to you first. Don't listen to them. Eat paste, girl!
Go out right now and get a good trimmer, and the pink atg gun, a pack of white and black cardstock and a couple of Iris paper bins to hold your paper in. Then decide what you are going to scrap. Holidays, vacations and school stuff, or the cute everyday stuff or a combination of both. Or are you just going to do mini albums and crafty type stuff. Then decide if you are going to print out the pics yourself or buy them in bulk from a website like Costco or Winkflash. That will help you get started.

As far as paper, I like to get the kits. (not the cheesy ones, but ones from like Fancy Pants, or My Minds Eye, or Basic Grey) They usually put in an alpha sheet, and some cardstock stickers. This way I know I will be able to get more than one layout done, and have a few coordinating pieces to go with it.

Hope that helps.
Have fun rejoining your passion.

All you would have to do is get them printed (RitaS mentioned a website to use!) and then put them in traditional scrapbooks... then you have something tangible!

Shannon - I'm soo sorry to hear about your supplies! I seriously would've hunted her down too! I wonder if you could've called the police on her? I suppose you would've had to identify that everything was YOURS and hot hers, though... and with scrappy stuff that's hard to do :(
But, if you like shopping, I guess getting all new stuff will be fun for you, too! I think you'll LOVE it here at ACOT, there's lots of stuff to do, AND buy! :D

Re: Oooh! I <3 Cherry Blossoms (newbie post)
Welcome! I am so sorry about what happened with your scrappy supplies! I don't understand how anyone could ever do such a thing!

Whether you go digi or stick with paper, you will get a ton of help and inspiration here! This place is just awesome! Everyone here is kind and warm, very helpful, and extremely talented. If you need inspiration just go into our amazing gallery and you may start to get ideas as to where to begin rebuilding your scrappy stash. I do both digi and paper and that means too stashes lol! But I enjoy them both and wouldn't give one up for the other. And I have printed out my digi pages and they print beautifully, so you could still have something tangible if you want, and you could print out many times over if need be. But with that said, I still love to cut and glue and embellish and punch, punch, punch my papers! I would never give that up!

I forgot to mention: if you do want to look around at digi, you can google "free digital scrapbook supplies" or something like that (that is actually how I found ACOT!). I also go to this blog http://handpickedfreebies.blogspot.com/ and a few others to get free stuff (the one I linked has a really big selection this week since they just had DSD last weekend). Another great digi "tool" is templates - they can really help make things fast (especially since you've got a lot to scrap...they have free ones of those on the web too) You can always do hybrid - where you do most of the work in digital to save time and then just put a few embellishments on it afterwards...that way you wouldn't need too many actual tools.

Thank you for this link! I love the ideas I get from templates and sketches.
