AlwaysHappy wrote:Welcome to ACOT. You will absolutely love it here. We have so much fun and there is always some kind of challenge or other fun stuff to do. Check out the digi shop. We have some awesome designers. Pop into the gallery and you will get a lot of scrappy ideas. We have a big on line crop coming us in August. Now talk about fun, it's awesome. You can gain points to apply towards purchases. Check out the site and learn your way around and then jump in when your ready. :-D

Love to know more about this, I am really super interested in challenges, can you tell me more?

How do your challenges work?
Are they specific kit based?
Or can I use any kit from your store?

I have a smallish budget initially, as being from NZ we have to put up with stupid exchange rates, so I pay double for a kit, what other people pay.
Our rate is about $1NZD = $0.54USD
So if I put aside $150NZ, I am only able to spend about $70US
It SUCKS, but not much I can do about it as I just love scrapping!

This is an open gallery; challenges are the same way. So any kit you have is good. If the designers/team want you to use a specific one, usually they give it to you. (like a free mini to do the challenge) A lot of times challenges are a certain theme/recipe/idea/etc.
Its full of challenges, games, fast scraps and lots and lots of chatting. Its easy to get points at the crop. Points can be used in the shop to give you a discount off stuff. :-D

Re: Hi from the bottom of the world!
Welcome! You're talking in terms of kits, so does that mean you're a digi scrapper? We have a big list of monthly challenges and most can be either digi or paper. There is usually a manufacturer's challenge for each style but even that would be anything by that company, not just one specific kit. There is a Message Board section for Challenges; the post listing the June ones is here: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=226435. July ones will be posted on the 1st so you can jump right in to those!

Re: Hi from the bottom of the world!
Yes I am a paperscrapper turned digital as with an almost 2 year old monster in the house, paper is impossible for me now.
I used to scrap paper with my daughter but that was a long time ago. I still have her album though.

I have a huge number of digital scrap pages, but I haven't put anything in the gallery here as I always feel awkward when I have nothing from this site that I have scrapped with, they are mostly from one other site, although I have a bunch from when I first started that I have no idea where the products came from.
Mostly freebies - and prior to me being taught that the designer IS important and I should record all the information for crediting pages.

Nowadays I scrap by folder.
So I create a folder and pop in the images I want to use, and contact sheets from any kit I use (even when I use ten kits LOL) and I write a credit.txt file for fonts, journalling etc.
Each Page I make now has a folder.

I'm wandering the store atm, so once I've bought a few kits, I shall get a few pages up into the Gallery!!!!

Re: Hi from the bottom of the world!
Wow that sounds like a ton of work. I just keep the kit open in one folder and pictures open in another, drag and drop. But PS CS3 &5 tell you file names, CS3 when you batch load them they do.
You use Gimp right? Have you thought about upgrading to PS or PSE, they have 30 days trials if you wanna try them @ Adobe.
Acot is an open gallery so you can put any pages in there from any designer. I do love that. I love to be able to have all my pages in one place.

Re: Hi from the bottom of the world!
No sorry I don't use GIMP, I only know how to use it as I mentor a couple of people who use it.
I use CS5 myself.
I'm a photographer, so I go between Lightroom and CS5 for everything.

Yes you are right that CS5 places the filename in the layer name, but that doesnt help you with what kit it comes from initially.
I've found a lot of designers don't put the kit name on the element names, so popping the contact sheet into my folder keeps everything straight.
When I come to write credits, it takes me about 2-3 minutes to credit the Designer Names, Kit Names, Fonts Used, A copy of the journalling and whatever other info I need to credit.

It also is super fast the way that I do things, as at a recent real life Crop in Auckland I scrapped about 15 pages during the crop......
I think the next closest to me (in page numbers) was about 4 or 5 pages completed.

I scrap a LOT, and usually reasonably fast, depending on my mood at the time.
I've had to learn to be fast as I can only concentrate once the baby is sleeping and the house is clean, and on days where we aren't out all day, so I've learnt to make the most of my time hehehehe

Guess I should take some cues from you. I'm a decently slow scrapper usually... 2.5 hours a page. Do you have a portfolio? I'd love to see your photographs.

Re: Hi from the bottom of the world!
I'll upload to the Gallery here, but I'm following the rules and doing 4 a day LOL

I have a website, www.pureimage.co.nz which has a portfolio, also a reasonably new-ish FB Page for Pure Image Photography which has a selection of images on it.
I love taking photo's!

One of the LO's I just uploaded features a wee lass who I did two family portrait sittings for.
I mostly do family and baby shots.
But I do get a few events as I've been doing them a lot of years. BMX, FMX, Motocross and the like. I do them because I've learnt them and started out in that area.
My passion is kids and families though!

I love scrapping pages, I think in my DSP Gallery I have well over 200 pages up. I likely wont put a lot of them here, just a few of my faves and hopefully a lot of new ones with products from here as I do them!

I'm irritably waiting on a bank transfer to clear so I can go shopping LOL
I loaded up my wishlist AND my cart so the silly bank needs to HURRY UP! I want my money!!! LOL
