I'm a super hero. My daytime cover is Integrated Product Lead, which means I have to make sure several corporate applications stay up and running all the time, that there are people to work on them, and that our customers are happy. They haven't created my comic book yet, and I don't want to spoil the surprise plot twist, so that's all I can tell you right now. Keep this on the down-low.

I am a ward clerk in a hospital. Have done this job for way too long now, but it's decent. Oh, and I don't have to worry about getting laid off since I work for the Federal Government :)

Re: What's your occupation?
Right now... mom! And I teach and design for a LSS.

Before that... I have a degree in Theatre and my concentration was Costume Design. I used to be the Assistant Manager for the Bucknell University costume shop and then moved back to Boston to freelance design for area theatres. I also had a day job as a nanny for many years. After being the Vice President of a local theatre group for a few years I got a little tired of the bureaucracy and needed a break from the world of drama!! Now I am taking a theatre hiatus (except for seeing shows!) but still run in those circles.

Ain't no money in the pole these days, I'm afraid... I made just $100 bucks last Saturday, but Diamond says it's because of the New Year. Apparently, some men resolve to spend less money. Who knew?
That's because you're not doing it right. :-D

Re: What's your occupation?
I started out as an LPN. I worked geriatrics, med/surg, pediatrics and then 4 years in CCU. That last 4 years did me in - too stressful. So I went to the business office in the same hospital where I worked switchboard & handled ambulance calls (which I thoought was really strange - the ambulance calls should go to the ER, not the switchboard operator!), then went into insurance billing. After that I took a billing/accounts receivable job in a nursing home for 6 months, then went to my last job. I was the company administrator. Sounds important, but I did everything from answer phones, schedule truck routes, customer relations, bookkeeping for the company AND the owner, and all the taxes for the company. Whn the company incorporated, I turned the 1040 taxing over to an accountant, but still did the rest, including the W2's so they were there for the employees by Jan. 2nd. However, as the company got bigger and 2 horrendous-to-work-with people were hired, my stress level went up and my fibromyalgia got worse. I ended up having to leave because I was disabled. Two weeks after I left I ended up with another bowel obstruction (actually 2 when they got in there) and the recovery took almost 2 years. My disability claim was ended in my favor last February. so I'm at home and try to do a bit of housework here and there and get online every day.
I wonder, sometimes, if we ever give God a headache.

Since I have never really found my "career" yet, my current "job" is Educator at an aquarium. Basically my job is to educate the public visitors about the animals in the aquarium, keep everyone safe, and the animals safe, though I do much more than just that.

Re: What's your occupation?
it's been interesting to read what everyone does...and my 3rd attempt at going thru the thread since I keep getting interupted at work with work!! Can you believe it!?

Career 1 - 19 yrs as a graphic artist (FT)

Career 2 - 8.5 yrs as church administrative asst. (PT -started when first child was 3)

Career 3 - short lived career as LSS supervisor (economy forced job loss/change)

Career 4 - almost 1 yr as Branch Office Administrator for investment firm (FT again - both kids are in school)

My new job is going great - I love it, although I crave the creative process so I scrap into the wee hours (mostly working on BoBunny assignments and ACOT challenges! and live on way too little sleep.)

Re: What's your occupation?
I have worked in pediatrics most of my 34+ years as an RN. My first job was at Cincinnati Children's Hospital working with kids who had cancer. I did a 1-1/2 year stint with adults on an orthopedic floor but that just wasn't for me. I definitely prefer working with kids! I worked at Shriners Burns Hospital in Cincinnati for 22-1/2 years until it took a toll on my health, now work as phone triage nurse in a pediatrics office. The senior MD was my son's pediatrician (my son is 30)!
Take care of you,
Deb
