Chatty Cherry

does anyone?
Does anyone have a good and easy apple bars recipe? When I went to a friends funeral 2 weeks ago someone made some that were out of this world but i didn't think that it was proper to nose around to find out who made them and to get a recipe, when I was trying to hold it together. But now I'm just craving them.

Re: does anyone?
thanks, I may have to try that next week. I should have said that I've already bought the apples. The bars I ate were like a flaky crust, then apples, then another flaky crust on top with like a powdered sugar/milk drizzle or something. but the applesauce bars sound like something I should take camping next week!

Re: does anyone?
I've never made these, but my sister makes them and they're delicious. Hope it's what you're looking for.

Apple Bars
1/2 cup Crisco
1/2 cup butter
3 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon milk
2 eggs -- separated
6 to 14 apples
3/4 to 1 C. sugar
1 to 3 T. tapioca
apple pie spices
3/4 cup powdered sugar
dash salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon milk

Cream Crisco and butter. Add dry ingredients. Mix two egg yolks with milk. Add the two with the flour mixture. Grease a jelly roll pan. Roll half the dough into pan.
Mix apples, sugar, tapioca, spices. Put on crust. Dot with butter.
Spread remaining dough over apples. Prick with fork. Beat egg whites until frothy and wash crust.
Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes.
Mix powdered sugar, salt, vanilla and milk. Glaze bars.
