I've been trying to take all the digi classes. So now I understand what it means to buy brushes. Is a brush kind of like a pattern?

It depends on the brush - some brushes are really only good for stamping on your layout because they are created like doodles. Others are wonderful for masking because they have more intricacies.

So is a brush kind of like an element and then you use the brush tools to widen or thin or airbrush, etc?

In parting

Just a few things to remember about brushes:

1. Always open a new transparent layer on which to use your brush (unless you are erasing with it).
2. Brushes can be scaled down or up, they can be blended - pretty much anything you can do with an element you can do with a brush.
3. You can layer several brushes on top of each other to get some pretty cool effects.
4. You can always print out a brush and use it on your hybrid projects.

Hope this class has been helpful! Thanks for joining me!

Would a "brush" be the right thing to use?

Thank you so much for doing this class. Right now I'm still in the state of confusion, but when I get time to set down and go through this step by step in PSE, then I'm sure a lightbulb will go off in my head. LOL I think maybe some of the termanology used in digi is what is confusing me. Again, thank you for your time and patience with us.

Hmm... you could think of it that way. I think of them as shapes that my paint brush or pencil or air brush will take (like the tip of your pencil is a star or swirl). Make sense?

With an element you can't get a watermark effect or a soft texture pattern because elements have hard, defined edges and colors. With brushes you can do a watermark and you can get a textural effect.

Didn't make the class earlier, but will read through this. I rarely use brushes and would like to learn more about them. Thanks for the class.

Beautiful page!!

I'm a big Photoshop user... I know what brushes are but don't use them all that often. I read through your class and I want to say thanks for the great ideas for using them! Because of your class I will probably start using them and trying out your wonderful ideas!
