I sure hope the teacher gives a different assignment! She's got to realize that an assignment like that is a bit much to ask for right now.

That really is a strange assignment. Do teachers just not think before they do their lesson plans and are they not reviewed by someone else first any more?
Hope it all works out for the best!!

Are you sure it was a homework assignment? Maybe ds2 just wanted to go out to eat. LOL Just kidding!!!
Did it come with a gift card to a restaurant? If not, than who is she to tell you that going to a restuarant is homework?
I used to be a "celebrity cherry", but now I'm in re-hab...... Holy Carp!
That teacher doesn't have a clue - has never lived in reality! Wonder how she'd do living MY life for a week? Maybe then she'd have an idea...
I wonder, sometimes, if we ever give God a headache.
If she doesn't give him another assignement that costs $0, I would go to the principal and the school board if necessary.
I remember back in 7th grade when both of my parents were unemployed and had been for a while. In Art class it was time to do macrame. We had to supply our own twine for our project. I went to my parents and told them that I needed them to buy me the twine. They were pretty upset. My father went out to the garage and got some string for me to use. It was much thinner than the twine we were suppose to use. My macrame belt wound up being a choker (at least chokers were in style). The teacher had us bring our projects up to the front of the class for him to grade. I wore my choker up and took it off my neck and presented it to him. He asked me why mine was so small and I had not used the correct twine. He did not do this nicely. He pretty much rediculed my choker. I had to say in front of the entire class that my parents were both out of work and that they could not afford to buy me twine and that string was what my father already had in the garage. He gave me a C.

I'm interested in hearing what the teacher's response is....
Hopefully she came up with giving choices!

That is ridiculous! Any word on what she said in response to your note?
thats totally crazy.. how about in the beginning of the school year when the teachers send home a 2 page LIST of crap they supposedly need??? half the crap in the list they never use or for example graph paper my ds needed a whole notebook of it.. At the end of the school year there was 1 page used???? those notebooks are expensive... and i Have 3 kids??? what happened to going to school and learning with the tools that you could afford???
I have had to send simular letters to school and usually the teacher has modified the assignment not only for my child but for a few others that were having financial difficulties.
hope everything works out.. if not COMPLAIN!

Was the assignment to go out to a nice place? Maybe you could have taken him to review those $1 sandwiches they have a Quizno's. He could frame it as if he were trying to determine if it was a good value. Or maybe he could review the "Value Menu" at a fast food place.

Wow - If the teacher wants that kind of report she needs to pay for dinner!

I am an English teacher and have no idea where she came up with that assignment. I would never have them do that. She should have given them several choices to choose from.
That is one of my biggest complaints...sometimes I wonder if some of the teachers actually think before they assign some of these reports that the kids are supposed to do.
And what happened to just using posterboard? Now the kids constantly gotta have the tri-fold boards...those are almost $8 a pop, not to mention the $25 for ink for my printer because of all of the stuff that they have to print out, and then there's my scrapbook supplies to make the board "look cool"...the list goes on and on.....monthly...because I have 2 of them in Jr High..ugh.
If the teacher won't modify the homework, I would call the principal and explain it to him, maybe he/she can talk to her.

Nothing makes me happier than seeing the word "CLEARANCE"
LOL! My son's favorite veggie is Brussels sprouts, and he asks for them oftencat1393 wrote: I'm still waiting to hear on what the teacher says. My son said the homework wasn't due today. He is in the 6th grade.
Loving all the responses....um, I happen to LOVE liver and onions, only when DH makes it, he uses a demi-glaze helps w/ the taste. If not, then it's ketchup! BUT don't give me BRUSSEL SPROUTS!
I hope you've heard something back from her - I'm dying to know what she says!
that is kind of strange. I have never heard of a teacher doing that. But I commend you for standing up and telling them your situtation... will probably help others!
