That's good to know Sus, thank you.I try very hard to make sure that different people are asked and I
include new members also. So, it is totally not a popularity contest
and the range of styles voted on is huge.
I love contests that are judged - I really like to feel like I did the best! If I didn't, I want to know that too!
I don't think this is the case because much of the time, the people that win contests are not the "cool" people on the board. In fact, alot of the time, I don't even recognize the winners! They're newbies to ACOT.Themom wrote:I also tend to look at scrapping contests sometimes more as popularity contests. I'm not saying that those who have won in the past do not deserve to win because their work is fabulous!! However, whenever there is non-blind judging involved in a community full of people who know each other as we do there is going to be biases.

The winner of the last contest, for instance, only has about 100 posts.

I agree with you Leslie. I think the way the judging is done is very fair. Sus is very diligent in making sure of spreading those votes around to current and new members. It's not the same people all the time.
On a molecular level, I'm very busy.
I love the contests and always check them out, but I find them a bit too specific to fit with what I scrap sometimes. Jan was journaling - I don't journal much and am terrible at writing stories. This month is pets and while I have some, I don't scrap them. I won't do a LO only for a challenge if it isn't something I would have done anyways, my scrap time is too precious for that.
I really liked the older challenges that were things like make a cluster, or use whitespace or a color challenge or something like that which is easier to incorporate into my own scrapping style. I don't know if other's have the same problem, but I assure you I would love to see the contests continue, and am very disappointed when the 15th comes around and it's something that I'm not feeling
Now, dont' get me wrong, I don't expect you all to start tailoring the contests to me, but you asked, so I'm telling!!

Love the contests and have entered when I can. As an above poster stated I will enter a contest if it is something I would normally scrap. I didn't enter last month's contest because the subject was journaling and I don't usually do much journaling, plus so much has gone on here in the past 2 months that I wouldn't have had the time anyway. But this month's subject is pets so I will definitely enter this one, as long as time constraints allow me to. I really really wish I could scrap day after day, all day long...
One thing I would like to point out is that since I started to digi scrap it has made it easier for me to get a layout in for a contest because I can produce it faster than when I paper scrap. It is also a lot easier to keep track of all products used. Doesn't mean I will ever give up my paper scrapping tho!!

I agree with the previous posters... time seems to get away. I do like the idea of it starting on the first as well, just maybe make it different color or bolder or something so it stands out as the contest? I havent been around past few months to do them, but when it was something I could work in like color scheme or clustering or a style I tried to get it done.
I LOVE them! However, the last 3 months I've done them and then not submitted them....I need someone to call me and remind me on the last day! The 15th sneaks up on me fast it seems.

k...as someone who's basically new....I can honestly say...that this message board is HUGE...there are so many different threads which lead to more different threads, that I didn't even know there was a contest thread? I haven't made it to 90% of this board. I just usually snag on to a thread that's shown on the box on the RH side of my screen..
Gonna have to make an attempt to locate the contest thread....

Nothing makes me happier than seeing the word "CLEARANCE"
I LOOOOOOOOOOVE the contests because it pushes me to do more layouts!! And the themes have been great!! Would HATE to see them go away again!! I'll participate every month!! Scouts honor!

I hope they don't go away too! It's a great chance to push yourself to do something different, AND a chance to win a GC here is nothing to sneeze at!
I would be so sad to see the contests go away. The first time I uploaded to ACOT was to enter a contest. I hope we get more participation.
-If it's scrappy it makes me happy!
I'm finishing my pet layout for this months contest! It's been sad and hard (my kitty was kicked by someone and we had to put him down, the only humane thing to do), but I feel better know he has a memorial page out there. I miss him so badly.
I used to be a "celebrity cherry", but now I'm in re-hab...... Holy Carp!
OH Baltoscrapper---I am soo sorry!!!! When did this happen?Wasitsomeone you knew? My heart is breaking for you!baltoscrapper wrote: I'm finishing my pet layout for this months contest! I'm a newbie around here... but I would love to have the contests! I did spot this one and plan to make a pets page (I sorted out pics too), but was busy with the crop, being sick, and the kids so haven't started yet.
As far as the people not feeling up to par, maybe change it to 10$ to a random participant and $15 to whoever is voted? Then maybe more people would join in.
Also, maybe have the main 'contest and challenges' thread/section where it's pinned at the top and harder to miss?
