I use those suckers ASAP!! Unless it's for food, because sometimes that takes more time (getting a babysitter, etc).

Re: Question of the day 1/13
It depends on what it is.  A GC to a store I will use pretty quickly.  I got a GC to a spa but I am going to wait until my youngest is over a year to use it.  That way I won't worry about leaving two of them with my husband.

Money I spend, cards I spend. You never know when stores will go out of business or start charging them down. :waiting:

I try not to let them go more than a couple months, because I've had some expire in the past.

I have one from Victoria Secret. I had it for a couple of years. I can't decide if I want to spend it on lotions, underwear or bras.

Re: Question of the day 1/13
It depends on what they are for! Ones we got for our wedding I still have some so we can buy furniture and other stuff with them when the house is done. But the ones that have expiration dates, they are usually used within 2 weeks! Most of the time though, I hold them to figure out the best things I can get. Sometimes I don't, but I try! :-D

Re: Question of the day 1/13
I'm terrible about GC's unless it is for scrapbooking and Michael's! LOL. I have a Crate and Barrel gift certificate from my bridal shower from 2001! We don't have one that close by so I just haven't made the effort to go and find one! With all of the store closings, I definitely need to sort through mine and use them.

Re: Question of the day 1/13
I hold on to most gift cards.  I always ask myself "Do I really want to spend my money on this?  What if something comes up that I like better?"  Or I save them thinking that I could use the card to buy gifts for other people, which is just stupid because I really want to use them on me and they were bought for me.  I have serious issues :(!

Re: Question of the day 1/13
It depends on the card.  We get them all the time at work and the most popular is Starbucks which is in my wallet (if it makes it there) less than 24 hours.

If they are bigger amounts then they are put up and I use them all at Christmas time to pay for presents for the kids.  Mostly these are Wal-mart and Target.

Re: Question of the day 1/13
I'd say I'm normally pretty quick in spending them, but last year, I went to a Bull Roast and bid a ridiculous amount on a gift card basket (i was drunk, so sue me). I won (of course, no one drunker than me bid) and found out that most of the gc's are for restaurants that aren'ttoo close to us!  They aren't horribly far (1/2 hour maybe) but we like to go out to dinner on friday nights and my dh drives for a living and he doesn't want to get in the car and go 1/2 each way for dinner (we live in the mecca of restaurants). Last friday, I told him "either we go to one of these restaurants and use a gift card, or you can figure dinner out! BUT, I'm not going to one of our usual haunts (i wanted something new! and FREE!)...after about 5 minutes, he caved and we went to Belair for dinner!

They don't usually last very long - especially if they are for scrapbook stuff.

Not very long!  I've never had one for more than 3 months and that was due to a no spend challenge!

They don't even get a chance to start burning! :winkb:  Well, unless it's something that itsn't easy for me to spend...like my GC to the spa.  You have to make an appt. for that, so it sits!
