Seriously, we will all have our views on how many words drove us nuts, because each presenter repeated them over and over, but today I would like to know who you thought won the debate and why!
I am for McCain, so I thought he threw in some good zingers at Obama. Really showed his experience with foriegn policy. It made me mad how Obama kept ignoring the time limits and established rules. When McCain asked for equal time, that was GREAT! He was the aggressor!
I also liked how McCain explained there are no PRIORITIES, all issues have to be handled immediately. Obama hesitated and said it may take his entire term before everything can be addressed. He is so GREEN behind the ears.
It is funny how different people see things differently. I saw the debate almost exactly the opposite of the way you saw it. And I am not saying this to say that either one of us is wrong, I really do find it incredibly interesting.
I thought that McCain didnt answer the questions enough about what he would do, but rather just spent his time pointing the finger at Obama. I didnt think that his statments about everything being a priority were good, I thought they were a cop-out. It isnt realistic that everything is a priority, you have to have priorities or you will fail at everything. So in my opinion he just avoided the question.
As for the time limits. It bugged me that Obama kept going over too, but really, it only bugged me because he was in essence allowing McCain to get away with his jabs about time. McCain went over on time a lot too, but Obama didnt feel the need to call him on it. (I was watching those lights after McCain started making it an issue)
And I know I am not the only one to say this, and it is totally petty, but what was up with McCain walking out and immediately sitting down to write - was he making a 'cheat sheet'? Nothing had been said yet, so what did he have to write about? It reminded me of how when I would go into a test, I would have a cheat sheet that I was trying to memorize and the first thing I would do is write down those things on the scratch paper so I could stop trying to think about them. Or was he just putting his name and the date on his paper?

I am for Mccain..but yeah.. both of them STUNK last night. Was completely boring and uninspiring. Just extremely disappointed in the debate. I stopped paying attention after the first hour.

oh yeah I agree with the totally boring an uninspiring thing too. I went to bed after the first hour. (It was past my bedtime already anyway)
I didn't watch it so really can't say how it went

Both sides did the side step and as a result it was a tie in my opinion. The truth is this election will be straight down party lines. It will be the Independants that make the choice. My daughter is voting for the first time and she, as well as many of our youth, are not playing into the party goals but instead voting by what impresses them at the moment. This scares me a bit, because experience is no longer an important qualification.
Always make time for SCRAPPING!
I dont know about the direct split down party lines. I think there is going to be some shake-up there. I personally know a few Republicans who have switched to Democrat as a result of the 'last 8 years'. I also think there will be some people who will vote on the race, religion and/or gender components of this election.
And I also disagree that experience should be the deciding factor. For one thing - it seems to me that the two tickets are pretty evenly divided on that point: McCain is very experienced, but Palin is the least experience of the 4. Obama isnt as experienced as McCain but Biden has a lot of experience. Plus, (and this is not directed at anyone in particular) just because you are old doesnt mean you are smart or even wise, and just because you are young doesnt mean you are rash, unpredictable and unreliable.
Maybe I am a 'young voter' (29) and I am definitely a Democrat, so I guess that influences the way I view things, but I want someone who can do the job, but who can also change things. I dont like the way things have been going so why would I want to pick someone who has a lot of experience doing it the old school way.

And sometimes that is exactly what it means, as with this particular case. Obama's answers were very incomplete, pat, party line answers. I really am not a Republican, haven't been in years and I do not agree with most of what McCain says; however, the answers that Obama gave were so pat, down the line, rash and immature that I have hard time taking him seriously...and just because you are young doesnt mean you are rash, unpredictable and unreliable.
The thing that I did like about Bill Clinton is that despite his lack of experience he surrounded himself with qualified advisors. With the exception of Joe Biden, Obama's advisors have also been young, opportunistic, immuture grand standers. The trip to Europe was unbelievable and his world vision is just short of a Messianic complex. He gets one line from a General and runs with it as though he completely understands all military operations - forever.
And, for the record, I do not consider running a state as Governor as having less experience than being in the Senate. It's tit for tat. Being a US Senator requires very little hands on knowledge - their aides do most of the work for them.
BUT - as for the debate... speaking patterns aside, it was boring and a draw. The news media will, of course, give it to Obama.
You gals have all made some very good points. I like reading your different views.
If life gives you lemons, go find an annoying person with paper cuts.

It was a total snoozefest. Heard it all before, from both sides!
This is seriously the most important presidental election in our lifetime.. well my lifetime/younger people I guess.. but it is really serious. I honestly don't think either mccain or obama should be the next president.. I keep hearing about people being dishonest on this absentee voting stuff.. maybe we should stop absentee voting altogether. Then this guy who is trying to publish a bio on obama is not being allowed of kenya. What is that about? *course if you don't watch fox news you may not know any of this* *not trying to piss people off by saying this etiher* Just yeah.. this is dirtiest politics in the history of american politics i've ever seen. *i'm only 21 and this is my first time voting* This just how I see it. Even if you do/don't like Sarah Palin. People are just doing the meanest cruelest things ever. Like that Newsweek cover. What is that about? Of course they have brushed every other person on those before. They didn't airbrush her cause they wanted to show her in a bad light. Well they lost cause Sarah Palin is a beautiful woman even without it. It still isn't right.
It's just so upsetting.

I've loved reading everyone's viewpoints. Personally, I was bored out of my mind. I liked watching the Vice Presidential debate better than the one last night. I felt McCain came off as very cranky and angry. Obama didn't have much substance in his answers and I've always felt that he has a tendency to give the run-around. However, last night, I do feel that Obama came out on top.
I am an undecided voter. I have been a registered Democrat since I was 17 and have always gone down party lines. I wanted Hillary to get the ticket so bad I could taste it. I was really unsure about Obama because I had such a hard time finding where Obama stands on the issues that are important to me. Once he got the ticket, I was all about McCain and intended to vote for him pending his Vice Presidential pick. I am strongly against Sarah Palin for VP. I think she is charismatic, strong and very intelligent. However, she and I are polar opposites on many issues and she has not been kind to Native people in Alaska. As a Native person that bothers me and I feel that I cannot place my vote with her.
I'm having a really hard time deciding and love reading your opinions.

I did not find it boring. Here's what I heard, understanding I am Republican. If many of you are using these posts to get your info, at least get a little down to earth explainations.
McCain-He will propose the feds use $300 billion to bail out the home owners, bring it to those in need rather than filtering the money down through the banks. He will allow us to choose our own health care and give us cash/voucher to use towards health care and open up the opportunity to shop around from state to state. Shopping around creates competative pricing. He will not force anyone to have health care, but certainly wants to give them more options. He will not raise taxes, but keep them as is or lower during these tough economic times. That is his promise to all classes. He will continue keeping our troops in Afganistan, because they need our knowledge & peace keeping support to keep the Talaban in Pakastan. Afganistan is not able to sustain against an invasion in their current state. McCain also explained that talking and "wheeling and dealing" does not always work in those cultures of violence. If idle threats are made, it can be dangerous because we will be challenged and will be expected to act. All negotiations have to be seriously backed or our power is lost. He is not against negotiating, just believes if a line is draw it must be done strategically and action should be swift. He also believes helping the innocent in Darfor or Rwanda is critical, but should not be a US mission, but instead a global mission. The US cannot go racing to save everyone. As for Globalwarming and the energy crisis. Drill baby Drill. He wants to bring it home and build a dependency in ourselves, not in others.
Obama-He wants to create laws to ensure the wealthy do not get richer off of other peoples money. He blames the rich and appologizes to the middle class for having to suffer for their mistakes. He believes in regulation including our Health care. He intends to tax businesses who do not provide health care or the appropriate amount of health care. Taxes will be used to fund health care for all low income children. It will be a "requirement" to provide your child with health care insurance, if you are in the middle class and do not qualify, you could be fined for not having your child protected. Obama intends to raise the taxes of the rich so the middle and lower class can have a tax break. The middle class get approximately the same break with Obama as they do with McCain, but the lower income will get a bigger chunk. Unfortunately, the small business owner will suffer and could end up passing along the difference in the products/services we buy, especially if they also must pay for employee health care. As for the foriegn relations. Obama wants to pull out of Afganistan, but in turn wants to invade Pakistan, Darfor, etc. etc. But of course, only after he sits down and talks with the head honchos and tells them to do as he says or "suffer the consequences". Lastly, Global warming. He pretty much so agrees with McCain, but gave no specifics how to increase our energy dependancy.
Again, this it the view point of a Republican. I am sure the other side has a bit different view point.
