Re: Ah..the smell of Poo is in the air!
Growing up we called that the smell of money :) The highschool I went to was surrounded by corn fields on two sides...and they spread every fall.

We have a cattle feed lot a few miles from us, but most days you never smell it.  We also have a rendering plant near us, luckily the wind usually never brings that smell here!

I made dh promise when we built out in the country to never spread the field around our house - hopefully he sticks to that!

I have experienced that smell when I visited my grandparents on their farm in Saskatchewan, Canada. I now live in a city with over a million people.  I'd take that poo smell over the pollution anyday.  ;)

 Jeanelle,
My dd is looking to adopt a llama!  Not to have physically but to sponsor like you do the starving people overseas!
She's a knitter and spinner and would like some llama fur to spin into yarn.  She know of other girls who have "adopted" sheep for a fee and they get a letter telling them about their sheep and then they get the wool when they are shorn.

She loves llamas and alpacas and lives in California - if you know if your parents are into sponsoring one of theirs, let me know!

I have done some spinning here in Northern California. I know someone  that just lost their Alpaca Ranch He has some Awesome Fiber for Sale. I would PM you but Can't figure out how. This Fiber is as good as the nicest Romeny Wool I grew years ago.

Man, I missed an animal poo thread????

I used to work at a dairy farm. Milked 300 cows. They had an outfit come in & pump the pit (that would mean poo pit) twice a year & them spray (yes, spray, not spread) on the fields. Smelled great, fantastic even. For about a whole week. Mmmm, don't miss that job.

Our fields are spread with liquid - comes out of some sort of truck..then its supposed to be worked in.  Notice the word supposed!

There are also some farmers who put it into their pivots and spread it that way...that's a lovely smell :) And are you mighty lucky if you are near there on a windy day and it gets your vehicle :)
