If you have never tried using an overlay before it is really easy and fun to do! You can make your own papers by simply popping one of the overlays on top of your colored 12x12 layer and then select "overlay" or any other light altering tool. These are a few overlays that I made myself and have used on some of my papers. Give 'em a try and just holler if you need any help!!!

Hey Kami--will those work on photos too if you resize them? I just saw this technique where you put the grunge layer (or any overlay for that matter)between two layers of a photo and then just adjust the opacity of the top photo...wondering if I could use these for that?

Yes, you certainly can use them on photos too!! Simply resize and like you said, adjust the opacity!! The top middle one works great for a grungy look on photos because it mainly only covers the edge and has a middle opening which wouldn't cover up the faces on any pics. Hope that makes sense. LOL!! But great idea, thanks for asking.
