 and if I don't come back send out a search party!  I am going to help my Mom and my aunt clean at my grandparents' (who are now both passed away) house.  Let me tell you a little about this house....it was built in 1898 by my great-grandfather.  My grandparents lived in it for 70 years...never throwing anything away!  There are 13 rooms and they have 12 ft. ceilings.  The upstairs bedrooms (3 of them) have been used as storage rooms for the past 40 years, since my Mom and my aunts moved out.  They are stacked to the ceiling, I think.  You might say just start pitching things, but there are quite a few valuable items, as well as sentimental ones, amidst all the clutter.  We all knew this day was coming, we just didn't want to think about it.

 My dd and sil had to do that a few years ago after sil's dad passed away.  The house was built by his great grandfather and only family had lived in it.  I don't think anyone ever threw anything away.  Let me tell you, they were totally overwhelmed, as they only had about a week to do it.  They did find some awesome stuff, though.  SIL's grandma was involved in the church and some women's groups, so she baked alot.  She had cook books, where she had written beside the recipe, when she made it, what event she made it for and if it was good or not.  I thought that was pretty neat.  They also found a few Reader's Digest magazines from 1937 to 1945.  Of course, those items were just the tip of the iceberg.

 Am I weird if I say that sounds like a lot of fun??? I'm sure it will be a lot of work, but cleaning out someone else's house is easier and much more fun than cleaning your own. And you may find some cool vintage/sentimental goodies!!

My dh said when they were cleaning out his grandma's house that there were so many old polyester clothes that if the place ever caught on fire, they could have just rolled the whole mess into one big melted polyester ball & roll it away!

 WOW-- sounds like a lot of work but you never know what you might find in there-- it could really be alot of fun also!

 I did that in 2006 with my mother's house when Alzheimer's made her unable to live at home anymore.  Look at every scrap of paper before tossing!!  My half-sister was working in the bedroom.  She found a copy paper box top that looked like it was full of expired grocery store coupons from the late 90's.  There was also a big plastic food storage bag in there with more papers inside it.  Hidden in there were stock certificates!  I also found near the bottom layer on one table an envelope from the bank that still had $100 in it.  The signatures on the bills were all from the Regan administration!!  Don't forget that some things you may need to keep for a certain number of years just in case the IRS decides to do an audit!!

 We are going through the same at my grandmother's house right now... yikes, just look EVERYWHERE!  She had literally thousands of dollars hidden in the house: in drawers, in boxes, in magazine pages!  It is nuts.  Good luck!
